anyone got a 2.9 engine? or somthing else?

so I've hit a snag in what should have been a simple recomissioning.
The bottom end is buggered.
The way I see it there are 3 options hear.
1) pull the engine and get the crank reground etc.
2) drop in a replacment engine. (anyone selling a good one?)
3) replace with somthing else? jag v6? rover v8?
The main consideration hear is that this wont be somthing I'll keep forever.
I like the idea of the jag conversion but will it affect values significantly?

If it's not a keeper I don't think a Jag or V8 conversion will repay you the cost and effort involved. Standard cars sell easier.
I have a 2.9 short engine (basically no heads) believed to have been running okay before being removed from a damaged car.
Oops, just had a look at it, bores are a bit rusty... think I should have greased 'em up before stashing it away
