I sloshed a couple of litres of unleaded into the fuel tank today and found that the nasty little inspection hatch where the in tank filter lives is leaking.

I used a new seal and ring but obviously didn't have the right tension on it. Is there a technique to getting these right?

I cleaned the mating surfaces thoroughly but I think the metal disc may be slightly warped. Are they available from anywhere or is strictly make your own?

Recall comments in the past about a thicker seal ring, possibly Land Rover?
...... and using Hylomar sealant or Red Hermatite

Luckily I haven't had to reseal mine yet, but I seem to remember people mentioning doubling up the sealing rings.

Cleaned everything, trued up the metal disc, used some Hylomar and dented the locking tabs over a bit more. Much tighter in there now and so far it's holding up with a couple of litres chucked in. Thanks all.

I had a similar problem at the base of the tank. I used an epoxy plastic padding putty for repairing tanks from Halfords. It cured in about 20 mins and has been rock solid ever since. I just did a quick search on their website, but I can’t see it. I’m sure I it was the same as the link below. The stuff is excellent!
