problem hot starting S2
Discussion
My S2 (2.9L) has just started playing up by not starting when hot. I removed the fuel pump fuse which got me started on one occasion but didn't seem to be a solution at other times. It has started very easily with a push/bump start. The battery is new and kept fully charged. Have any of you folk experience of a fault finding schedule they can advise me on please
Thanks very much

The fact it bump starts easily seems to rule out the more obvious fuel pressure or ignition system problems.
Is the battery spinning the engine over OK? If not, check the voltage at the starter motor while cranking to see whether it's a problem in the motor, or the electrical supply to it.
Also check the ignition voltage at the coil +ve when the problem happens. If there is a heat related problem with the unbalasted supply, that might cause symptoms like that.

Can I go back to other issues of smelling of fuel and mention that IF you have a throttle pot that is working the wrong way around (historically this is an issue with Ford 2.9's/TVR S2's even selling them (TVR and Ford) with a plug and instructions of how to rewire them)...when it is cold the car works perfectly as the with the TP telling the engine it is at full throttle it needs it liking it to a choke, THEN running at half throttle is the same BUT when you slow down it over fuels and smells of fuel (an issue before?) AND it is really hard to restart when hot. Just a thought that should be considered. A@
PS push starts are the gets you pressing the pedal to 1/2 way and that is why it starts/runs.

I assume that your throttle pot will not actually be wired the wrong way round as you say it has only "just started" having the problem.
But you could try taking the throttle pot out of the equation by unplugging it completely when it will not start.. This, I believe, puts the ecu into limp home mode. and it should then start if the pot is the problem..
