I've seen a few products advertised for cleaning/renovating the rear plastic screen. Some make amazing claims, but dont want to make it worse. Anyone know a good product and where to get it.

Depends how bad it is.A lot of people recommend Renovo.I have tried it but my screen is in good condition so didn't see much of a change (Like when you polish an already shiny car).Other than that I have used T Cut and Autoglym resin polish.Needs plenty of elbow grease though to get the T Cut off.

I have tried Renovo Plastic Window Polish
www.renovointernational.com/sections/b_window_polish/plaswinpol.htm
with reasonable results, but after 12 years the rear window needs replacing.

It's not sold as a screen renovator, but as a side effect I noticed when I put rain-X on the rear screen it seemed clearer afterwards, especially at night. I assume the Rain-X coating fills in the scratches. Obviously, the screen has to be completely clean before you start.

Cheers,

Be careful with Rain-x if you read the label it tells you not to use it on plastic.

Definitely don't use rain-x on plastic... it turned my mate's plastic headlight lenses opaque.

Usual disclaimers apply, but I've used it on the rear screen for years with no obvious problems.

Rain X has been fine on my rear screen. I also found that Halfords Glass Cleaner did an excellent job of cleaning the marks off it and also stops it misting up.

Ah, maybe it affects different plastics in different ways. My mate only used it twice before he noticed his headlamp covers going opaque.

I remeber seeing a discussion about the merits of toothpaste at some point as well. Anyone tried that.

I used renovo screen cleaner to good effect on a virtually opaque screen. It's expensive, but well worth it. Toothpaste would certainly work as it's a fairly mild cutting paste, but renovo is probably finer.

Yes, I've used Renovo too to stunning effect -- the screen is now clear where before it looked scrappy.

I've used the Renovo cream polisher before and it was very good, but then I found that Autoglym's Super Resin polish was equally as good if not better IMHO

i would think it depends how bad it is, but I have found Autogleam Fast Glass very good for cleaning off the week's grime. If you have severe issue with your rear screen have a look at their leaflet. They (Autogleam) seem to have a solution to most cleaning probs, and if they say you can use it on the part of the car you want to use it on, you can... it's a bit like the ad: it does exactly what it says on the tin... and no, I don't work for them, but I am a fan of their products.

I've just polished mine with autoglym super resin polish and it has come up absolutely clear to my astonishment. I hadn't done anything with it since I bought it a year and a half ago as I assumed it was scratched beyond repair and had also gone slightly opaque. Turns out it was just bloody grubby... doh.

After reading this thread i tried the Autoglym resin polish on the rear screen on my S2 and it came up brilliantly, daylight rear vision is very much improved and the opaque-ness disappeared, but i did notice at night you get an almost scratchy/hazy effect from car headlights behind you, but then again it is plastic after all.

Me too. I polished my car on sunday (as you do) with Autoglym and thought I'd 'do' the rear screen as well inside and out. Amazing, it's come up crystal clean even removing some smudgy marks behind the the roof stays. Give it a try.
