Hi chaps ,
After some help again . Pretty much got the interior refurb wrapped , but noticed my Speedo is sitting at 40mph when the car is off and not dropping back to zero.
I haven't driven the car yet ( I have the plenum off and am in the middle of resealing the injectors and fuel rail.) But is this likely to reset itself on a road test or am I looking at new Speedo time . I have checked the connections and confirmed the earth is ok .
Car is a 2.9 S3 . Also the rev counter is sitting at 1000rpm when the car is off but I have heard that the rev counter can stick at its last reading on switch off.
Anyone got any ideas please .....?
Getting a bit fed up ...fix one thing and another bu**ers up.

That's normal for the tacho - Mines in the kitchen and still doing a thousand RPM.

Just checked and the Speedo is also at 40MPH, it was working fine when it came out a couple of days ago so I would say nothing to worry about..

Cheers for the reply Ray , like yours , mine had both been out for a while whilst having the dashboard refurbed , maybe I need to get the Speedo back in and give it a run .
Any other ideas / advice gratefully received.

Sticking armatures will very likely be the cause

Mine has been laid up for some time now without a battery and I noticed just the other day that it was doing 40mph! Never done that before, so I suspect it’s something to do with being disconnected from the any source of power.

Hi chaps , so car is now mot,d but Speedo still not working .
Can I ask someone who has a spare one to hand if they can post a picture of the rear of it , I've been reading up and it seems some think there is a case earth as well as the plugged lead and others say there isn't.
Before I get the poxy thing out again and send it for repair , I want to check I've covered all bases ?
Hope someone can help and thanks in advance .

Mine had a two core cable with the screen acting as the ground. No separate earth to the case anywhere. It's back in, and working fine..

Can't upload an image. But checked my spare and definitely an earth tab on a threaded stud next to the bulb holder. I also remember having same problem as you by not fitting earth after a dash removal.

Feel free to call me a total t**t , next time I'll connect the case earth which I "found " amongst the mass of wiring behind the dash . A mistake any s**t engineer could make ...... I "cleverly" removed the tab from the stud so couldn't remember it being fitted on the dash rebuild.
Cheers all for the replies .
