Does the S2 usually suffer from excessive travel in the brake pedal? Maybe servo unit?

No. Maybe stale fluid or a hose going soft. If it only happens while driving, it could also be pad knock-back from bearing flex.

Doubt it's the servo, pedal should go down further with some servo assistance?

Could be many things, Peter has already listed a few favourites, I'd add rear auto brake adjusters not auto adjusting?

Any work done on brakes recently? Bleeding can be a bit tricky, air can get trapped in the rear brake bias valve.

Slip the rear drums off, are wheel cylinders nice and dry?

Front disc brakes should adjust as pads wear but if they are very low replacing pads may help.

Master cylinder could be passing, any sign of brake fluid dribbles down the front of the servo below where it bolts on?

Yes, likely to be either old fluid or air in the system ...they should be good

Start with bleeding and my be worth considering replacing the flexible hoses with braded type...the orig I’ll rubber ones would be old and weaker now, possibly flexing when the brakes are pressed....

...get them sorted and then test them at the TVRCC track day at Cadwell in May... wink

Pads checked and OK, stale fluid maybe a shout as car was stored for a long time prior to purchase by me.

Yes there were signs of fluid from master cylinder! Guess that’s the culprit !?

I know not connected but also did notice today that slave cylinder for clutch badly corroded.

Clutch slave cyl?
My S1 uses Landrover S3 slave cyl. Lucas 550732G . This unit has 7/16” thread.
Don’t know if you will have the same unit on your car though. Sure somebody will enlighten us.
I get from Island 4x4 who are in Maidstone now I think. Other landrover parts suppliers are available.

Echo the above. I recently replaced both clutch cylinders from Island 4x4. Excellent service and cheap. Also got a braided hose made up by HEL.
Deffo 7/16 at slave cylinder. Check recent post 'Clutch Hydraulics'

If you Google search "Pistonheads TVR S series clutch slave cylinder" it is probably one of the most discussed subjects!

If fluid is down the front of the servo then the master seals may have gone. In this case the fluid can fill the servo (which is not good) have seen at least three of these now.
Pull the vacuum fitting out of the servo and feed in a piece of windscreen washer pipe so it goes down into the bottom of the servo. Do not Suck blow gently on the pipe and listen for bubbling. Had one where the fluid ran out of the vac hole as soon as i removed the fitting. I have no idea what effect this would have on the servo so have always replaced it. If you look carefully at the bottom of the servo you are quite likely to find it is well rusted anyway.

Bottom of Servo is rusted, I think replacement servo and clutch cylinder is inevitable reading posts.

Is there reconditioned options for sale anywhere? (Have noted land rover angle)

Hi Fez

how did you get on with sourcing the brake servo and master cylinder?

Ended up purchasing both through TVR parts - price is good if you are TVR CC member as you get a good discount

I initially bought a master cylinder off eBay and ended up it didn’t fit despite claims it was correct part. I was probably unlucky and there is plenty of MC for S Series on eBay.

I was about to start a topic on Brakes and this is ready and waiting....as rusting goes I don't think there is much left of the original steel master cylinder. someone will no doubt remind me why the photo inverts it's self between my phone and the website?
Anyway, so a replacement is on order, this is after I realised the spares I'd do have have also siezed rolleyes
I'll add the parts id to the alternative parts list in due course.
The servo looks ok from he top...and there are signs of rusting at the base but it wasn't until I got it off the car that the holes were visible.

Yeah my Servo looked ok from top, but wasn’t until I realised I had major travel in the brake pedal I investigated further ........
