As subject - what temperature thermostats are S1 owners using?
I think the standard is 88° but I thought I had read somewhere that an 82° is preferable as the thermostat sits in the 'cold side' of the 'flow' from the radiator and thus benefits from a lower opening value.... Any substance to this? or stick with the 88°?

88 works for me, mine's a 2.9 but can't see that making a huge difference?

someone else with more technical knowledge may be able to confirm but, I am under the impression that 82 will be better for power and 88 better for economy - you choose biggrin

I don't believe so. The engine uses a conventional top stat.

If you want the heater to work better you might want to use a hotter stat. I doubt you'll see any performance advantage from running it hotter, but it does mean that if there are any overheating issues it will take less time for the engine to overheat.
