So I am booked in to replace all 4 tyres on my S2, but seems to be mixed opinion around whether I should bother. As stated previously on this site they are around 12 years old, good tread and no signs of cracking etc, but Initial feedback has been I should change them not only for safety reasons, but it will result in a vast improvement in ride quality.
What’s general consensus on this? Am I wasting my money? If no real reason to change I will spend my cash on other improvements
Currently set to change to Avon Brand

Mine were 12 years old, looked fine. But on the way back from my first MOT they were lethal on a dry, slow roundabout. It felt as though the car was 'up on tiptoes'.
The rubber was glass-hard. Other tyres may be made of better rubber (although mine were a reputable make), or the conditions of storage may be important. I wouldn't risk it.
By all means, try it yourself: a road test is the only way. But be careful!
Now on Dunlops as recommended by many here: a lovely drive!

They say 10 years regardless of condition and tread. if unsure.
To confirm the age of your tyres, you need to check the DOT code on the sidewall, it is a code stamped on one side of the tyre only. For tyres manufactured since the beginning of 2000, it is a four digit code. E.g 4809, this would denote week 48 in the year 2009. If there are only 3 numbers then the tyre could be from the 80's or if there are 3 digits with a triangle, this would be from the 90's.
Hope this helps

I agree with everything mentall has said.
The tyres that were on my car were about 15 years old when I took ownership. I thought the riding like I was sat on a brick and the back end of the car being very lively on roundabouts coupled with very heavy steering were just characteristics of a S Series (having never driven one before).
A full set of Dunlop Blue Response tyres about a year into ownership completely transformed the car.
Do it, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t regret it - even if just from a safety perspective.

I've been looking at Avons for my V8S - when you say AV7s do you mean ZV7s?.
Black circles are knocking them out for about £63 each fitted (205 60 15 size) but they have a 10% off flash sale ending this evening (Monday 25th Feb) so £57 each.
I've just obtained authority from my wife and I'm going to order a set of four to replace my ancient Bridgestones.
Hopefully nobody will pipe up and tell me how rubbish Avons are just after I've placed my order.
(I have no connection with Blackcircles - I just happened to be looking at prices this morning and saw their sale).
