I have my engine stripped down now and I can see the engine number, actually 3 numbers. If its 47A40P google says that's a Chim engine. Did V8S's come with Chim engines?

The 4.0 V8S and early 4.0 Chim engines are the same base engine. Chims (and Griffiths) went to the intermediate serpentine front end later.

As far as I'm aware there are two iterations of 'TVR' RV8s.. The early 3.9s as fitted to wedges, V8Ss, pre-serp Chims and Griffs- and the later 4.0 (serp) with some bottom end changes.

The 47A00568A at the bottom would have been before TVR took it apart and fiddled with it, when the CR 9.35 was correct, it should be higher than that now, 9.80?

afaik all V8S have a 47A40PXXXG engine number and the spec is identical to the later cars that used it. (well, had, before we all started fiddling with them some more)

as far as concerns 3.9 vs 4.0, NCK built a 3.9 version of the rover for the 390se wedges, 400 engines are what rover called a 3.9 which is a bit bigger than a TVR 3.9 and helpfully the same size as a rover 4.0 but with almost no interchangeable parts
