My first year anniversary coming up on owing my S and time for a service on the old S2 2.9 V6. Looking for suggestions in terms of best oil, filter and plugs to use. Pipercross airfilter changed late last year so no issues there.

Thanks

Don't waste your money on fancy stuff. Valvoline VR1 20W/50 is excellent and cheap, an over the counter oil filter (eg FRAM) and NGK plugs from your local motor factors will do perfectly well. What you save you can spend on petrol driving

Thanks, checked other links re oil and it does seem to be a debatable subject. Thinking any 10/40 synthetic the way to go.

On a seperate issue, after owning the car for 12months I checked age of existing tyres today only to discover they are over 12 years old! Tread is still good, but do feel they maybe affecting ride quality as rubber has probably hardened, so plan to change. Just sense checking if others have come across similar issue?

The tread maybe OK but the rubber will have hardened and have lost its wet weather grip. You'd be wise to get them off asap. Many of us are very happy with Dunlop Sport Blueresponse. Regarding the oil; you really don't need to fork out for an expensive synthetic. A good quality mineral or semi-synthetic is perfectly good enough. Remember we have very old technology here and modern 20W/50 mineral or semi- oils with modern additives are much much better than the stuff the engine was designed to run on.

During its life it has probably had all manner of oil in it, bit late now to start putting fancy synthetic stuff in biggrin

My tyres were exactly as you describe yours when I got my car a few years ago in that the tread was excellent, but they felt a bit ‘wooden’. Bought 4 new Blue Response and it transformed the car!
