Good morning everybody,

I'm new in this forum so I apologise if I do something wrong while posting this and please correct me if I do so.

Four months ago I became owner of a great British Racing green TVR S1 which has been on sorn during 14 years.

I've been working on it during the weekends since then, I've change the radiator and cooling fans, reconditioned all the cooling system, changed spark plugs, fitted a new fuel pump as the old one was dead ( I followed the steps given on one the the threads of this forum), and lots of other fixings.

Last week I could start the engine for the first time in 14 years, but as it was throwing a lot of smoke into my garage I had to stop it. The thing is that when I tried to start it again suddenly the starter stopped working while turning the key.

I've checked the starter, fuses and relays and everything is working fine, so I found the immobiliser and checked if a click could be heared inside when I turn the key, and it does when I turn on the ignition for the pump but it doesn't when I turn the key to starter position and so anything happens. There is no starter at all.

So, I guess that the immobiliser starter relay has gone, I read in a very old threat (2012) that what can be done is to do a bypass between the immobiliser wiring but to do so I need the immobiliser wiring diagram. Can anyone send it to me at least via PM?

I would be more than grateful.

Thank you so much,

Aap2

Hi and welcome.

Do you have an alarm/immobilizer fob or the 'dongle' thingy? Mine does exactly as you describe when I switch on the ignition (ie pump will prime) but won't start unless I press the immobilizer button on the fob. Could be the battery in the fob is dead in which case, replace it or try the dongle that AIUI disarms the immob and is a back up to the fob.

Hello and thank you for your reply,

Yes, I have a remote control with a button, which I need to press 2 times in order to disarm completely the immobiliser which makes the vehicle turn lights blink two times and the red light on the top of the steering column cover turns off. That's what I did the first days I was trying to start the engine and it was running perfectly.

Now, although the red light turns off, when I turn the key the starter doesn't rotate at all (no noise is noticeable) and of course the vehicle battery is fully charged.

I don't know if you get this kind of error in the past? I think it is the immobiliser relay failing as I've read in some threads that is a common failure, but maybe you can suggest something else?

I checked the starter a month ago before fitting it in the vehicle and it should be fine.

Thanks,

Aap2

Lots of reasons why a TVR won't turn over and although it may be the immobilizer it could be other connectors! Have you checked the 'notorious' yellow connector under the dash above the steering column, could also be the earth connection from the starter to the chassis?

Have a search on the forum for similar issues and you will find many threads but in the meanwhile here is one that might help;

Hello,
I apologise for my late reply,
Yesterday I checked the yellow conector and it seems ok. Also the negative of the starter has continuity and it's working.

I'm pretty sure now that as I thought it is the immobiliser starter relay that is not working at all.

Can anyone help me to do the bypass ? I don't know which wires are the ones of the starter circuit

Thank you so much,

Aap2

Does this help? ....... wiring diagram TVR S1

A live straight from start position on ignition switch to the starter solenoid although there are a couple of links off to the ignition module and the cold start injector?
