That's the things but I need ones with an 8mm (5/16") ball. Like THIS but from somewhere a bit more local.

Thought you had a friend in America?

Might be worth having a chat with SGS Engineering

Joe's a Northerner if he's past Junction 15 Heathrow and North of the Thames - they never come south of the river unless in an emergency.

Can someone point me towards a gas strut for the boot please ( to fit onto a thingy...)

I am currently using a metal clip that Richard(greymrj) sourced 10 years ago. However, it's seen better days

Cheers
Tim

Don't really know - wouldn't expect so.

I changed mine as it was struggling to lift the boot - but I think this is because mine has a luggage rack attached.

I still have the old one which still seems to have resistance if you want to try it?

Is that aftermarket? My S2 had a sliding metal strut with a crude latching mechanism at the end.

S1 & S2s had the sliding rail/ latch thingy that you see on old furniture ( ie drop-down cocktail cabinet door flaps and suchlike. )

S3 onwards had the gas strut.
Access to fit the bottom ball thingy mount could be a problem because it is fitted where the fuel tank is on the other side of the body tub fibre glass. Don't go drilling holes willy-nilly without first checking what is there on the other side!

Mike, that is quite different to the S.
I don't know if it could be fitted as an alternative.
Certainly not a straight swap.

Thanks for the replies and offer.
Yes I have one of the flimsy furniture catches.
Is an upgrade possible?
Where do the struts attach

I am afraid the MGB one wont fit the TVR (working on two MGB's at moment, bloody rusty things!!)
