Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of finding a nice S3 to slake my V6 TVR thirst. I've seen a couple now that look to sit extra high at the back end. Is there a common or obvious reason for this?

E.g:

You should be able to lower it if it's got adjustable shocks , that's an S1 on your link .

Basically it's a fine balance between sitting low enough to not look silly but not being so low you drag the exhaust off every time you go over a bump.
By design the rear wheels do look a bit "lost" in the rear arches and I think the exhaust was a last minute bodge!

One of the links didn't work. This is the one I'm thinking of going for (yes I'm looking for a LHD)

As the old saying goes, three things to check when buying a TVR.... chassis, chassis and chassis wink

The suspension should be fairly easily adjustable. There should be big adjuster screws round the damper which adjust the spring compression/height. Dampers should have adjustment screw or dial. They could be seized. As Mike says, check the chassis. If that is good then you can sort out the ride height. Generally, a high ride height can be lowered, a low ride height could well be tired springs and dampers and cannot be dealt with without new units. The ride height shown wouldn't worry me PROVIDED the chassis is good, I can sort the ride height later.
Just a note, if you do buy, come back to us before sorting the ride height. There are a number of things to think about first.

The blue car in Sandy is very high! I think my S3 is high, because of the exhaust, but nothing like thar car I would have a good look at that one,it seems so high I would worry that adjustable dampers would not lower it

As long as the dampers are the correct size for the car, it will be possible to correct the ride height, probably without even replacing the springs. If the dampers are not the correct size, they'll need replacing in any case. They aren't cheap but also not hideously expensive in the scheme of things, and they are a wear item in any case so would need replacing eventually. If the dampers are wrong, I'd be more worried about why they were fitted and what other mistakes might have been made maintaining the car.

I am sorry but that car in the photo does have a strange stance,if it has adjustable ride height that's ok. I have raced cars with Gaz dampers for years so I knew my way to their factory for re-builds! My S3 has Gaz.

The blue one on ebay is definitely too high at the back. Possibly has incorrect dampers fitted, or just set up wrong.
