Recently i changed the gearbox mount on my s3 for the Sierra type 9 one available from Burtons.
Whilst comparing the old and new ones I noticed the new one had a much shallower box pick up channel than the old one , a bit of manipulation and it fitted , box now sitting around 1.5cm higher ....no problems...or so I thought.....
Whilst driving in traffic I have found I now have a quite bad case of clutch judder on taking up power while the car is already rolling slowly , it doesn't seem to occur all the time and never from pulling away from standstill. Never had it before and car only has 39000 on it so not sure clutch is giving up , wondering if the higher mount has affected the prop angles or something.
Turns out my old mount , Ford part number 72hf-6068-aa is for a mk3/4/5 Cortina .
Had a look at Burton and their mount GBRK400 is identical to my old mount .
Ordered one and now have to replace the item I only changed a month or so ago !
I'll let you know if my "new clutch judder" gets cured on replacement of the mount .

Lesson learned....investigate , check and check again ...don't go for what you think is right ...!
Hopefully this may save someone else from having to do the job twice ....

Thanks for the info, Fozzy. I hope the replacement cures the problem.
Please keep us informed.

Perhaps when it is resolved, somebody could add this to "Useful Links"?

I'm in the middle of replacing my clutch slave cylinder. When I removed the old cylinder I found the fuel flow and return pipes were in the narrow gap between the slave bracket and the chassis.

If you change the position of your gearbox, even slightly, it's worth making sure that nothing is trapped, or prone to chafing.

Plenty of cable ties!

Yes, there are two types. Both look the same from a bird's eye view, but one is much higher than the other (the one for 1970's Fords), and isn't correct for the S.

Hi chaps , no worries I'll let you know what happens when I replace the mount , hopefully in the next couple of days ......it's a pretty straight forward job and all the bolts and nuts are new so shouldn't have any problems.
I'll post a couple of pictures of the right and wrong one too to show the difference.

Changed the box mount today ....the Sierra type 9 one I took out was difficult to get out but the Cortina one that I put in was a piece of cake . Will have the car out tomorrow and see if the juddering clutch has sorted itself ....
A couple of pictures for comparison .....

The type 9 mount has the silver gearbox pick up , the totally black one is the Cortina mount and is identical to the one I had originally.

Has the judder disappeared?

Quick update on the clutch judder issue .
Finally got the car out today (been on holiday ) and gave it a long run with lots of traffic stop and starting and there was no repeat of the juddering problem on any of the pulling away and power take up on the roll.
Fingers crossed ...hopefully. ..that's sorted but you know what an S is like .....
Who would have thought the mount for the gearbox being 1.5 cm out could cause issues..
