A mate of mine has had one of his trashed by the third world roads we have down here in Buckinghamshire. Thanks in advance
If you need a fresh perspective on how bad your roads are Joe, come down to the Bronx. Surrey County Council has the worst pothole record than any other local authority in the UK, and leads the way by a country mile! themee said:
What have you got on there now Chris? Slots, Eight Spokes?I had to have the camber and tracking reset the other week thanks to this...
The private limited company which Bucks CC has given an exclusive contract to (no competitive tendering in Bucks mate) for maintaing all the county's roads paid its TWO shareholders £4.25m in dividends. Guess what? One of those shareholders is a FRENCH company

Joe - thats a whole new discussion! Like our waterboards being owned by foreign investors, so profits are not re-invested....... that list is endless.
In the meantime - I'm thinking of buying an urban assault vehicle to deal with Surrey County Council - Begs the question what they actually spend all our money on!

The councils with the most unfilled potholes revealed: More than 100,000 reported but not repaired due to a lack of funding
Surrey has the most unfixed reported potholes with more than 6,700 to fill
That's twice as many as the next council with a crater problem - Kent
Councils say they're buckling with little financial support from the Government
Pothole repair funds give 52 times as much cash to trunk roads than local routes

It's down to the gradual out-sourcing of contracts. Eventually all the contracts are out-sourced and end up with a single company because that's the only company which has the capacity to handle the work. So after a period of years, all roads maintenance in Bucks is now effectively privatised and the company can charge the council what it wants because there is no competition. The same model is being followed for the NHS. If you don't believe me do an FOI request to your local health Trust and ask them what contracts are currently with privately owned providers. We live in a democracy so you get what you vote for. You have been warned.

Managed to finally get myself a set of 8 spokes last year, they came refurbished but lacquer is already going on rears. Would have kept the splits but can't see me ever putting them back on, always liked slots on the S though. themee said:

OZ 8-spokes were the best looking IMHO, but even on the S3C I bought new they were beginning to show water ingress under the lacquer within a year. Those on my current S3 were looking peely last year, so rather than spend £450+ to have them diamond cut, I refurbed them myself (without re-lacquering) over the winter. Total cost about £12 for varying grades of wet-and-dry and wire wool, a tube of Solvol Autosol and importantly, some Mothers mag-and-aluminium polish, the best ever. themee said:

In that case Chris. Well done in sourcing probably the hardest to find wheels, I tend to think they look best too, but I also have splits - the 15 @16”. The 16” splits on rear looking better than 15 imo. Hence I,ll be restoring them when I can afford toDeeman said:

I thought most of our waterboarding was outsourced to somewhere like Libya or Algeria? Their governmental H&S regime it's not as stringent as ours in the UK.
