Steering Column Knuckle
Discussion
Where is the best place to buy one of these from?
I've read on here in the past that certain brands lock themselves when used on our cars. So if you've fitted one trouble free please let me know where you got it from.
(Just in case it's not clear from the picture, it's the upper one)
TVR Parts list THIS ONE as 'OE'. Is it the best one? It'd better be at that price.
Thanks in advance

Half the price, half as good? .........
Yep, that's the question. I only want to do it once. Since starting the post I've been working on the joint with Plus-gas and my favorite un-seizing mix (paraffin + ATF) and it has loosened off without becoming sloppy. Driving to the petrol station and back and the steering is back to normal. So there's no rush to replace but I'll get a joint in anyway for when it does need changing. The steering was fine last year so it's just another example of how laying the cars up over winter can cause little issues.
Useful stuff diesel, cleaner and lubricant! Always some in a tub on the bench and much less risky in the garage.
When you have the joint off, it you are looking to extend its life, I did notice CBS do a nifty little rubber cover. I made one for the bottom joint which is very vulnerable but I intended to fit one to the top one....when I had the time!!!

sorry, I forgot something.
If you did buy from CBS ask them for the joint with clearance suitable for a TVR S, I have been through this with them and they do stock two alternatives which will fit the Ford shaft and the other is too chunky. Also ask them to add a suitable high tensile bolt for the clamp, saves possibly stripping a bolt.

I've left the old one on. There was no side play so once it had loosened up all was lovely again
This did get me thinking though (*). There have been a few posts on here (can't find the mot recent one - only a couple of weeks ago) from people asking if it's possible to fit power steering because they are finding it harder to deal with low speed turns as they are getting older. Maybe the answer is not PAS or gym membership but new knuckles/UJ's?
I wish I'd checked the knuckle joint before splashing out on a 14" Moto-Lita steering wheel
(* it's OK to do it once in a while)

Looks nice though...14½” OD
It's in pretty good condition but I'm going to have it re-covered in a thicker heavy grained leather for a more comfortable grip.
As an added bonus I can see the top segments of the instruments as well with this one
I have also reached 70. I was struggling a little and considered power steering, and probably will again. However I tried a very slightly smaller wheel but with a much bigger and softer grip. To my surprise I found it made the steering much more comfortable. That wheel you have does look very nice indeed.
