Stright 6 in an S
Discussion
I know ian at track v road has a S6 3.6 and T5 in his race tasmin fhc. I'd imagine it goes well also I know some may find it odd but I like the idea of putting another (ok original was ford) TVR engine in
Interesting I think I would want to copy ian and put a stronger wishbone rear end on it too.. but £££
if you only want 300bhp the mustang 3.7 v6 should fit

Depends on which one really and how you define "fit"
A 2JZ for example would just about leave enough room to put some metal back in to replace the tube between the shocks you'd have to take out. The extra weight would be unwelcome though especially given how much further forward it'd be. You'd probably have to chop a chunk out the middle of the bonnet for it though.
Or you could completely reprofile the bulkhead and put it nearer where the original engine is. But then you're a fair way off of it "fitting"

A modern alloy engine rather than that huge lump of cast iron wouldn't be a weight distribution problem even though it would stick a bit further forward, I wouldn't have thought? There's a couple of sp6 transplants around .. the chimaera is well known and for sale at the moment, there's a westfield with *cough* interesting exhaust arrangement, and Ive had a Scimitar se5 hillclimb / sprint car in for mapping with a SP6 in it. (it's on my website somewhere in one of the older news sections)
Ian wanted to bring his Tasmin racer in but I didn't have time to do it sadly so I think it's gone to powers now. I'd have loved to have done that but at the time it wasn't possible. Maybe when his new engine goes in.
The S has already been done with various V8s and V6s, incl supercharged and throttle bodied versions (my own was 355bhp) but a SP6 S (if it could be made to fit without too much destruction of the car) would be a nice twist ..
before the 5 litre went into my V8S I toyed with the idea of an AJP8 but it came to nothing.

Not without serious modification to the chassis, which would technically land you in the territory of requiring an IVA test. That's not a road I'd want to go down, especially with all the rules on the verge of significantly tightening up. Unless we're just talking track monsters, of course.
Plenty of decent 4-pots and V6s would fit in there, though. Or even a V8, though you'll struggle to get one other than the RV8 to fit, again without serious alterations.
I still harbour desires to stick a lightweight, 4-cyl screamer in there coupled to a 6-speed close ratio RX-8 gearbox. You could lose 100kg from the weight of a V6, easily, while gaining more power, revs and smiles.

a Millington Diamond would work and sound well and 300 bhp tooI had a little bit of a look at putting a BMW engine in as I just loved the engine, but it would have needed an enormous amount of work and i wasn't confident it could be achieved. Like Richard above it was such a major mod that it would be a different car and I didn't want to go down that route. The S is fun anyway and if you want the big power the Rover is so very well proven and so tuneable then I just couldn't see any point.
That would be an option. I wonder why the AJP was discounted by spitfire above.
Another drawback maybe scarcity which clearly creates other issues.
A friend did consider the AJP when they were engine swapping their Wedge. I think it was discounted on the grounds that the 5.0 RV8 was significantly cheaper.

what about the AJP8?.
as a speed6 owner I've often wondered why TVR went to the trouble of developing the S6 3.6 when they had a 4.2 V8 in existence; surely the V8 could have been made to fit the t-cars?
Probably too wide for the S chassis.. but you could modify that like Lexus Alan has.. as a speed6 owner I've often wondered why TVR went to the trouble of developing the S6 3.6 when they had a 4.2 V8 in existence; surely the V8 could have been made to fit the t-cars?
That said the s6 engine would also require chassis mods..
I think I once saw an ajp s but it was a cerb chassis with an s body iirc.

It could be worth summarising what we know works.
ford cologne 12v
Ford cologne 24v cosworth (bolt in)
Duratec 24v 2.5 - 3.7l (needs engine and gearbox mounts)
River V8 (engine mounts?)
Cosworth YB or almost any 4 cry should fit the Duratec 2.5 cosworth is awesome but won't sound right.
Pretty much anything else is pretty major work but can be done with enough time. Skill and or money.
How about an evolution chassis with LS3 for your V8s body..? Would need arches
Just my thoughts

I've had long discussion with Mr Smith about 4-pot Ford engines.
For the S chassis as is I think a 2.4/2.5 Duratech 4-pot is certainly a great performance match. But the sound would not be 'right'.
That said it would be in keeping with TVRs history.
Loving the 3.5 RV8 in Wendy - although she's putting out 190bhp so I suspect that TVR may have done some work on her.
