Does the cd player get a real battering from the stiff suspension on the S2 and get the heads/laser messed up?
I'm asking because mine has suddenly started rejecting all cds despite working fine at first. Its a Sony and i presume comes with the car? I have tried putting a cleaner into it but to avail. Is this common and is the player now buggered for good or can car hifi shops repair them?
I only use it occasionally (in traffic jams!) as i cant get enough of the engine sound !! but the missus likes her tunes !
cheers

Often CD players need the laser realigned after a few years, depending how good it is it might be worth getting a new replacement. My S has had a pioneer for a year with no problems so far.

My S3 already had a Pioneer CD changer fitted when I bought it, but I think it's quite a few years old and still works perfectly. In fact it's just sat on the floor behind the seat (kinda wedged) without actually being attached to anything, and this still doesn't seem to have affected its performance.

The only repair place that I know of won't do CD units, but if you decide to get a replacement you could try a secondhand/ex-display unit from Uncle Jamal on ebay. The display had gone on my old head unit, so I bought a replacement ex-display Pioneer r/c head unit to go with the changer, saved about £100 on RRP and £70 on the best Internet price, and got a great unit.
