Can anyone please help, I have seen a discussion on here about v3 bonnet hinges, I believe Geraldtvr or NFarmer could be the people to talk to, if anyone know of these people please can they help me. Thank you all.
Hi Geraldtvr and Norman Farmer are the same person - he has moved on but does visit sometimes. he did make a VERY good drawing of the original set up, BUT, there are several threads on here with much better wider opening hinges (the front of the bonnet does not hit the ground)gooogle search 'pistonheads tvr s wide open' and youshould see some different designs
Hi
Happened to 'lurk' today Gerald was the registration number (G39ALD) my car so my id on here was gerald-tvr
This is my diagram which is a copy of the original hinges;
Cant comment on the 'wide open' variety but if you want a PDF of the above send me your email address.
Cheers Mike is the chassis still in one piece?
Norman

If you are going to do it you will just have to do it right or it just looks....well....wrong!

And anyone know if they would do supply of the parts only ?
Think I read somewhere "supply and fit only" but a quick phone call should clarify that. I haven't sorted my bonnet hinges yet, as still working on the serious oily bits. Well not just lately, as I've gone and fitted a 4-post lift in my garage to put t'other classic out of the way on the 'top bunk'. And now I've got roped in to do some in laws house renovations !!
At least I'm not in the cold garage. But I WILL get back to it asap. And as my neighbour wants my bonnet out of his garage around easter, I guess the best place for it will be back on the car. I have bought some thick wall tubing, some threaded inserts, new grinder discs, & sharped my mig tip, so I'll have a go myself at the wide open mod in the spring.
Thanks for the offer though.

I am looking for a little dimensional information. Can any fellow S enthusiasts get to their cars are check this for me.
It is to do with assessing the variations between different bonnets relative to the tube on which they mount. Dont worry about whether you have original or modified mountings, they all (as far as I have seen) mount to the same square section tube. Dont worry about the height of your car either, I want to see the variations.
I attach a rough sketch (cross section from front left). I am asking for 3 dimensions:
The ground clearance under that angled square section tube.
The ground clearance under the point at which the bonnet would touch down if it had the standard mountings and the stay was not used.
And the horizontal distance between the two.
If you have standard original type mountings it would help if you could confirm that the bonnet opening, with the stay in place, is approx 30degrees.

Richard, I just got back from Percy's lockup having phoned you twice for clarification on your requirements but had to leave a message on your answer phone.
However I have some dimensions ( I have quoted your post and called them A, B & C for ease of reference ):
A. 182mm
B. 157mm under spotlamp bulges.
165mm under the rest of valance front edge
C. I didn't measure this one, but I measured from the rear edge of the cutaway valance to the front face of the front chassis crossmember. This was 222mm with the bonnet closed if that is any use to you. The valance has had a slice of fibreglass 55mm wide removed all along the rear edge between the spotlamp bulges. This is to allow the bonnet to open wider when the front of the car is jacked up.
The bonnet is just barely clear of the ground when the bonnet stay is engaged. But I guess the angle is somewhere in the region of 30° to 40°.
( Sorry, I didn't take a cllnometer or protractor.)
