Electronic speedo question
Discussion
My speedo doesn't work although I had it checked out by speedy cables and they said its fine. So that leaves either the sensor or the cable and connectors. Does anyone know what voltage is suppose to come from the sensor and how I test it. I presume I jack-up the car and put a multimeter in one of the connectors? What should I be looking for? I'm due an MOT before the end of the month and people say it is an MOT failure is this right

I didn't plan for it not to work and will get it going as soon as possible.
I only use the car in the summer so seems a shame to not be able to use it (as the MOT has run out
) just because the speedo isn't working. I'll try fixing it at the weekend again but don't really know what i'm lookiing for.

I'd be more concerned with the insurance aspect of it. Most people here have a limited mileage policy on their S. In the event of a stuff, pound to a penny the insurance company are going to ask for proof of mileage before they will process your claim. Just about the only way this can be done is the MOT certificates. If the mileage on this year's ticket is the same as last year's, surely that's giving the insurance company the ammo they need not to stump up ? ie they'll suspect you disconnected the speedo in a deliberate attempt to keep the miles down.

does this mean your not clocking any milage up??
Nope - mileage is clocking up normally - it's just the speedo reading that's busted
That's OK then, you can still work out your average speed per journey.
Just say "Officer, I'm afraid that's as good as it gets"
I'm very aware that our road infrastructure in the UK is particularly slow when I look at the computer on the car and it reads an average speed of say 36MPH on an 70 mile journey, awful!
