Retrimming a roof is possible, as others have shown. But it is not recommended !!! This has to be the most frustrating job I have done in a long time, and only pure stubbornness saw it through. The end result is satisfying and relieving in equal measure. Total cost for anyone else wishing to attempt was around £400. And best of luck if you try it .

I think that's only the second time I've ever seen your S with the roof on!
The last time was at a very soggy Blenheim classic show a few years ago, when the TVRs were the only cars that turned up and stayed for the duration. And you were the very last to concede that the rain wasn't going to ease up.
We certainly saved the day for the organisers.

Also one tip that may be worth sharing I used the above for a seal above the window as an alternative to the girl on bicycle and it appears to work well so far and was self adhesive and easy to remove if no good

That looks interesting.I'm just sorting out the seals on my Griffith, it's an early one and uses same "girl on a bicycle" as the S. While this appears to now be available from TVR Parts I was thinking of changing to the later style as I have a couple of lengths, but the channel it fits in and the spacer bars (U1705 & U0983) don't come cheap once you've added Vat and postage (and I have visions of them arriving bent like bananas)!
For £6.50 I might just give it a go

Thanks for that it does make me feel better. I was wondering what the going rate was. Also I suspect mine would have come in even higher as I had to replace all eight targa panel tangs and trim the roof hoop and rear rail. So for a pro the man hours would have mounted up.Bobhon said:

will this get us a reprieve? My S seals need changing aswell, maybe use the "Ebay stuff" on there and splash out for the correct bits for the Griff? ....... Or use the "girl on the bicycle" seal that i've been hoarding now that it is readily available again so not worth the fortune I'd been hoping for
Your Tamora channels are more than the ones for the Griff, U1750 (perhaps yours are longer!) but it's the spacer U0983 that strikes me as flippin' expensive for what it is?
I popped into David Gerald's, not expecting them to have the parts but gave me a chance to look at a roof panel, that spacer is just a piece of (anodised alluminium?) strip about 12 x 3mm!

I am very impressed. It is a b.....r of a job. Even expert trimmers don't like it as apparently (!!) no two TVR's are the same. Getting a good fit AND the tension right is apparently really difficult. I decided to do the tangs etc but let a trimmer do the hood. My usual trimmer friend doesn't do hoods, he said they were too much trouble! So I got the hood fitted somewhere else, and he got it wrong first time and had to remake the whole thing. (It was so tight we couldn't operate the stays, he had to meet the cost!) The going rate for a hood is over £600, might be more now.

So yes, I have enough experience to be very impressed!

Did indeed do the interior of targa panels, and the rear trim panel and roof hoop. Stretch magnolia vinyl, hot air gun and a few attempts, interspersed with plenty of Anglo Saxon verbs !!!Very glad you went for the high temperature glue as well, a few of us have had failures with the ordinary spray adhesive.

Trying to find an online guide that I used which I found helpful.
