up til now I have had 'personal'cover along my wife and had no problem the few time we've used them.

We both have recently purchased cars which included breakdown cover so now I'm looking for just the TVR. Now having problems as the car is older than 25 years, so presume I'll just have to go 'personal' again

What have you lot done?

I have personal with the RAC and it has never been used! However, I wouldn't risk not having breakdown/recovery and, whilst other companies may offer a cheaper deal, I just bite the bullet for the +£100 a year knowing (hoping!!?) that I have a reliable service should the worst happen!

I'm covered with personal RAC. I do it every year with Tesco club card vouchers, it works out very cheap doing it this way.

Adrian Flux do a separate breakdown cover (don't need to be insured with them). £55 for an S. ok with older cars, plus includes European coverage.

Good value, but not tested it in anger yet.

I'm with RAC too. Not had to use it for the TVR but have always been impressed with them when I have used them in the past.

Just let my RAC cover lapse and gone with Auto aid. £39 from Groupon and pretty much the same cover if you don't use any of the RAC associated discounts. Covers me for any car. if you do stay with RAC, haggle. Got mine down to £63 if I had stayed but went for the cheaper option.

I use AutoAid, it's about £45 a year and covers any car you own. Used them once when the wrong fuel somehow got into the tank?? And got recovered really quickly.

Rescuemycar.com. £38.25 personal cover for any vehicle. Only takes me to the nearest garage though, not recover to home. But with 3 cars, it's cheap cover.

Old thread Revival!!!!
I'm looking for breakdown recovery for myself, wife and daughter for any car/driver (personal cover) as my wife and I are both insured to cover daughter's car - I also have a couple of kit cars (classed as too old for some providers). Anyone got any leads? We are currently with a large provider (have been for 18 years) who send massively increased renewal each year (even though have only been used twice in last 10 years). When the latest renewal came through I haggled with them and got it reduced, but they won't go below the deal they give for a new customer (who can also get cashback) Grr.
When I sent an email explaining their 'claims' throughout the country will be a fraction of usual due to the current situation (and other issues such as loyalty) they just gave me the usual "we provide a great service' marketing speak. I've asked them to provide specific comment on the issues I'd raised. Whether I get a reply or not, this scenario has soured my view of them, and I'd prefer to change to another provider.

I did use LV for a while for both my wife and I for any car and also named the daughters car. Only claimed once, for the TVR in Le Mans! LV were great car recovered home and Taxi / train / plane / hire car home for my passenger and I.
We all now just use the breakdown included in our car insurances.

The comparison websites can give you quotes, but be careful. Many of the cheaper ones have vehicle age restrictions on personal cover. As another thread said, there is no such thing really as 'small print' but it should be plain to see. Hiding the vehicle age limitation on page 4 of the T&C is out of order I think.

I decided 'rescuemycar' cover was just too poor, then used Autoaid for several years but the price went up by 25%. The one I'm using at the moment (covermybreakdown) has a 21 year old vehicle limit which just covers me at the moment. Some have 16 year limits and I found one with a 10 year limit! No wonder it was cheap, they're excluding probably half of the possible cars on the road, when you consider new ones often come with manufacturer's breakdown cover for the first year or two. frown

I 'phoned one who had a 16 year limit. My kit car was registered 2009 but they refused it on the grounds of having an E prefix number plate - I wonder if they cover any cars with 'cherished' plates?

AutoAid for me and spouse; £45 and covers all cars(3) with breakdown and recovery to a garage of your choice.

Called them out twice in four years and both times they were quick and fixed the problem on the spot.

Decided to go with RAC, as they did a deal with all 3 of use, in any car (also confirmed they will cover my 2 kit cars) for £135 for 15 months (extended due to CV). The provider we were with for the last 18 years saw no reason why the CV should affect their price - but they lost the trade!

I have AA as part of my bank account and they've recovered me on a low loader twice now. They'll always send an AA van out first to ensure it is nothing they can sort, then you have to wait for the recovery truck. Has definitely paid for itself though!

Fortunately my rough running issues are sorted now thanks to Lee Boreham and advice on here, so now been enjoying commuting a couple of times a week with the top down!
