Hi all, I don't post often I just like to read the interesting and often amusing threads on the forum; until now that is!
I've gone and c--ked up (amusing thread).
I removed my centre console and dash some time ago and carefully took photos of thee wiring for all the switches and diale etc so I knew how to re wire it when it went back together. (Not the first time it's been out).
I replaced the dash but not the centre console. Now I've lost the photos of the window and mirror switches.
I'm not in too much of a hurry so if anyone is planning a centre console removal in the near future, or has just done one, I'd appreciate some photos showing the wire colours and positions for the various switches.

Can anyone help?
Thanks in anticipation. N

You do, of course, assume that TVR decided to use the same colours on two different looms.

Well done for popping your head above the parapet "Nmmm"...I recently took photos of the window switch on my S3C (drivers side) when I thought it was broken...these may help to start with wink

Thanks for the quick replies.
I'm sure TVR did a mix and match on wiring colours, but with any luck my car will be the same as the others out there and I can have windows that go up and down when I put my car on the road again in April.

All that electrickery, more to go wrong, you could "upgrade" and get manual windows like mine, keeps that classic retro feel hehe

My Land Rover is another step back as that has a sliding window biggrin

The fewer the wires the better thumbup

I've resurrected this, as I'm just waiting on new window switches to arrive. And can add a little more detail.
The original window switches are not 6-pin.
They are 5-pin, plus a lighting circuit +Ve for illumination of the switch.
Offside wire colours and what they are...
Y/W + Y/Bl = motor
BLK x2 = -Ve (ground)
Bl/R = +Ve (*)
R/Bl = illum +Ve
Nearside wire colours and what they are...
Y/R + Y/G = motor
BLK x2 = -Ve (ground)
Bl/R = +Ve (*)
R/Bl = illum +Ve

(*) Note, that on my car the +Ve is a direct no ignition controlled battery feed. In other words, the door windows can be operated at any time, no key required !!

I have also identified that the original window switches were also used on VW LT vans.

I have chosen to use universal 20amp rated 5-pin switches. Awaiting their arrival.
At which point, I intend rewiring the +Ve feed from being uncontrolled, to one fed from the Ign 'aux' key position, yes, also fused appropriately.
I have also decided that relays are not required.....

It would be a good idea to refit the console using some multi-pin connectors so that the next time you want to remove the centre console all you'll need to do it unclip the connectors and lift the console out of the car.

I'm not the original author of this thread, I just came across it, and thought I would add my findings.

I agree a console based multiplug/socket would enable easy access. But also potentially introduce another HR &/or fault point.

I did what v8s4me said and added quick release connectors to all the individual looms and harnesses under the centre console , it makes taking the console out a two minute job with no chance of mixing up the wiring .
Here are some pictures of my window switches when I had my console out last time before I nodded the looms .
Hope they are of use .
Left hand switch ,

Right hand switch ,

He are couple of diagrams, hopefully self explanatory of the inner workings of the actual switch.
5-pin..

5-pin plus illumination

With good quality connectors and properly crimped terminals that shouldn't be a problem.

Same thing on my S3C. And after after second thoughts, it's a really useful idea. If somebody want to steal or damage your car, the electrical windows feeding type will not change anything. A knife is the quickest tool to enter in a TVR. And there are countless situations when I really appreciated that the windows switches was in permanent supply.

I can't argue against the fear of theft from soft top sports cars. It's true that any canvas roof car is vulnerable, locked, windows up, or otherwise.

But as a separate consideration, personally I don't like having too many left 'live' features when I'm not in the car.
In my case one of the door window switches had gone sticky, luckily noticed pdq.

New thought.... I could leave it 'as is' with regard to the supply feed, but add a discrete manual master switch... Mmm.

And that's another job crossed off my list....
These universal 5-pin switches have a much more positive 'click' when toggled, than my originals did.
The door symbol graphic is illuminated by the main power feed to the switch. IE. not by a separate lighting circuit feed.

Oh, I added the chrome surround. It's just sticky vinyl wrap.
