COOLANT HOSE FOULING ALTERNATOR BELT

I am sure I have seen it here before but, thought timely reminder for those new to the S's. I have just had to make a trip home on the back of a recovery truck... although i didn't feel too bad as the driver knows TVRs very well.....he's always picking them up.
Basically the alternator belt had cut its way into the underside of the main coolant hose from the swirl tank to the engine, until point was reached where hose let go releasing steam, water and shite all over the engibne and it then overheated!!
Might be worth a check, I replaced mine with section of hose found on old granada/sierra at scrappy. Don't think it was the right, bit but it fitted, clearance is now better and engine has been fine since.

I noticed the 'groove' whilst checking the hoses a few months back. Ordered a new one from David Gerald. By the way, I recommend checking all hose clips, particulary down by water pump. Mine had erroded to 'waaaaffer thin' and by the looks of them, weren't particularly of great quality to start with. Bought some real nice industry strength brand new stainless clips from a boot fair! A bugger to replace but worth it.
Having just done these pipes myself I am considering constructing a cover plate to fit over the belt. This could be bolted on the end of the alternater swival bolt and keep the hoses out of the way. I shall be making one shortly after everything else!

Just looked at my own alternator belt and whilst it appears to be about 10mm clear of the hose, I can see where it has probably in the past been "flicking" the hose or even possibly when the engine starts the initial torque on the belt does move it out by centrifugal force and 10mm is not much clearance to play with (must be a formula somewhere for that !!!?) good idea to fit a protecting plate of sorts.
This is what happened to me on the German Autobahn - cut right through it and hey presto - no engine.Brilliant.
If you get the correct pipe then when you fit it, it has to be twisted at the top end to increase the clearance, this can be backed up with some cable ties to hold the pipe out of the way.
