targa roof panel tangs
Discussion
TVR Parts did have some remade and in stock but they are a b....r to use. Many people seem to have made their own as it is very difficult to recreate the way in which the originals were fitted. Mine are alloy, some have used stainless. I must publish the step by step way I did it, I think I have 'improved' on the way I have seen it done before but I did a pretty wholescale job on all 8 and recovered the panels and resealed them at the same time.
Did you get step by step instructions of PH? If so which posts did you use?

Good try Glen but it isnt the info I was looking for. The Search engine is so frustrating! Somewhere we have an account, with pics, of targa tang renewal, or at least of one way of doing it. Can anybody remember where it is. You have a good memory Phillpot, can you recall it?The problem with any sort of repair is that the original tangs are thick steel strip encased in plastic. The steel rusts and expands enormously, often distorting or even breaking the targa panel or top screen rail grp. Once it has expanded it has very little structural strength. Anybody who has taken and old one out will know it simply crumbles away once released.
You cannot simply fit an new one into the old hole, the hole is now too big and there will be splits in the grp. Sugru may work if you are lucky (it is pretty good) and if you can get the alignment right.
I actually found that the hood leak in mine, apparently at the back of the targa panels, was actually a leak at the front allowing water in to the targa through the splits caused by the tangs. That water then leaked out of another split in the back of the targa!
If we cannot find that earlier info I will just have to try to dig out all the pics I took!
Well done Rob, that is indeed the article. It was linked in to a PH thread some time but blowed if I can find it. Now we can!
I did it a little differently but I stripped my targa panels completely. Must find time to dig out my info as it covers a little bit more of the issues involved with the panels.
