What would you do? Garage 1 : Turn up with car, told need new bits for engine, and orders bits from Garage 2 , after much time and effect. Bits do not work..... so contact garage 2 who say garage are not doing job correctly... so now take car to Garage 2 as they say they can fix!!......after 2 days Garage 2 says bits are wrong for car and need to buy other bits. Car is now running at garage 2 with 2nd lot of bits..... where do I stand. I have paid garage 2 for 1st set of bits, garage 1 wants money for his work and so does garage 2. The basics are garage 2 supplied bits unsuitable for engine and now I have incurred 2 sets of labour charges and 2 set of parts.... Garage 2 still has car... help !

This looks like a bit of a bummer, but garage 2 seem to have created the mess, after all if they had supplied the correct bits to garage 1 then garage 1 may well have fixed it? If this is the case then you should try to get garage 2 to agree that the bill at garage 1 is down to them (garage 2)- but maybe you'll have to compromise and try to get garage 1 to reduce their bill...and get the money back for the first set of unusable bits... good luck, anyway. - . Ian, Good luck, sounds a mess. I would tend to agree that as garage 2 supplied the wrong parts they should refund / credit the cost for them - garage 1 labour charge will be trickier. It looks as though both garages are a bit iffy - I would expect a garage to know if it had the right parts for an S engine. Perhaps you should name them so the rest of us are aware.

Ian, Is garage 1 in Berkshire with a background in racing Tuscans by any chance ? V8S ? Wrong camshaft ? Sounds v similar to a story I heard when I took mine in this week for a service. Edited by JSG on Thursday 7th June 13:18 Edited by JSG on Thursday 7th June 13:20

Did you order the bits, or did garage 1 order them for you? Sorry to hear about your problems and obviously you've learned the hard way (as I have done in the past), but others can avoid getting into this situation by getting the people who fit the parts to specify and supply them. It may work out more expensive sometimes, but you could think of it as a kind of insurance. It means there's no possible doubt who is responsible for making it all work at the end of the day. Ianw, sorry to hear about the mess, I am equally frustrated. However, now that your's is fixed maybe Garage 1 will get around to my Griff 500 that's been sitting there in bits for 2 months!!!! Graham Edited by Graham B on Friday 8th June 17:08
