Hello folks

I've not been posting for a while as been super busy with work, however this week I'm having a fantastic family time and thought an update was in order.

S3 Duratech conversion. This is still going strong, the engine uses a bit more oil than is ideal but this appears to be a duratech thing, I will monitor but may need to remedy at some point. The 3.15 diff is superb and matches the 1:1 5th of the Jaguar box well.

However my original local mapper was not very enthusiastic about the project and didn't bother to map the Jaguar inlet length tuning valves (IMT). This left the inlet fully open in high power mode. The car pulls really well above 4500 rpm but feels a bit flat at low rpm as gas speed is too low frown (I believe..)

I was unsure what to do here. And kept switching between fitting a conventional ST220 manifold or saying f**k it and splashing out on a set of ITBs which would give 280bhp or so. Web searches resulted in either ITB or custom manifolds. No one seems to use the Jaguar manifold and although I read of Nobels using the ST220 I couldn't find much detail.

My second problem was who to use to map the changes once made. I won't go back to my original mapper so I did a fair bit of research and when I found the answer it seemed so obvious... Nobel the people who turbo V6 duratech engines in Nobel sportscars.

I gave them a call re the ST220 and ITB options and they countered with why not just map the Jaguar IMT valves, this probably won't yeild quite the same power as ITB but will regain at least the origional torque levels and will be £2k cheaper than ITBs so I'm really happy. The realy seem to know their stuff so I am confident they will follow through and deliver.

I've also replaced the headlights with some superb LED items (not just bulbs) and am also carrying out some body mods. I've blocked both the upper vents and 1/2 the lower on in the hope that less air under the front clam will improve high speed stability. I will update with pics once the car looks presentable again.

Oh I've also swapped out the squeaky rear Gaz Gold Pros with a set of Nitrons.. The squeak turned out to be the lower rose joints so was easily fixed but I am more than pleased with the Nitrons. I've gone relatively soft and handling is much improved over bumpy yorkshire B roads.

Come January I will take the car to Nobels and am confident we can recover my lost torques.

Happy Christmas everyone.

Hi Damien

I for one am always interested in your updates. I have the same engine in my Jag, and love it. I had thought about this conversion before I realised you had done it (though more academically than with real expectation of ever doing it). It must be pretty quick!

I sent a PM to you off the back of your last duratec update (basically picking your brains about the conversion!). Did you ever receive it do you know? It's quite possible you didn't, as every time I tried to send it the browser crashed!

Thanks

Good update on the project. I hope you get it to where you want it.

Why is it so hard to find "specialists" you can rely on?

Good luck with the developments for the New Year and Happy Christmas.

Hello I don't recall seeing the email and would have replied I'm sure, although as I said I have been busy. I'm hoping to write up a how to guide but am happy to answer questions.

It feels like it's 80% done now, only the IMT mapping and light weight flywheel to go now.

Thanks

Damian

A guide would be excellent, though they do take a while to do.

I've dropped you a PM. Hopefully it might make its way to you this time!
