I first looked at a wedge in 1982 with a view to buying, but in the end, the mortgage came first. Fast forward to 31st Oct 2015 & i finally purchased a S3, a very nice car owned by a very nice guy from this forum. Ironically this car was also from Chesterfield !
The car is in great nick & thanks to the great weather last weekend i was able to sample the joy of topless motoring in some very nice areas of Yorkshire, where i live.
The only thing i am thinking of doing (no rush) to the car is fitting dash wooden veneers - they are currently finished in matt black but it would be nice to see them original. Any tips on how to do this, where to purchase them from would be appreciated.
Would like to register on the S3 owners list, but unsure how to do this ? Any further help again appreciated.
Mike

Great to hear that, you will not regret it. Welcome to our forum, they are a very helpful and friendly lot on here and they were invaluable to me when I first got my own S, over 6 years ago now.
I am no help to you on the dash veneer as mine has the (most desireable! yum)curved console type, but someone will be along who has done this already.
One of the guys who set it up will be along to help you change the car to your ID.
Hope to see you and the car at an event next year. Have fun!!

Hi Mike

Welcome to S ownership and the best forum on PH...someone will be along shortly I'm sure to give advice on the dash...

In the meantime, whereabouts in West Yorkshire are you?? I'm in Wakefield, so if you fancy bringing over your new pride and joy if the weather allows give me a shout - mine's currently in bits (has been for 4 years) undergoing a full body off restoration - hoping to be back on the road next summer drivingsmile

Cheers
Jaye

Hi Mike

Hope you enjoy your 'S' as much as I do mine. I'm relatively new to TVR ownership and bought my S3 in February of this year.

Similar to you, I am keen to do some restoration on my wooden dash - I think mine is original and is starting to show its age. Here are a couple of websites that might be useful to you - one of them is a previous thread from this forum.

I haven't managed to track down anywhere that does new panels yet (although I haven't looked very hard), so would be interested to see how you get on.

The car is from chesterfield - that's where I live and the only other local S I know is Chris Gadd's.

Welcome to the forum and be good to catch up at events coming up.

The dash panel is a very poor design. Any decent furniture maker or coachworks should be able to remove the existing veneer and replace it. Problem is that the thinest of the panel means it doesn't support the veneer and it cracks.

As for the owners list. Click on 'Update this article' at the top of the list.

Number 8 is blank. Just fill in between the || || markings. The first one between the is your forum name.

You might find it easier if you use a proper computer and have one tab with the list on it and another tab with the editing page open.

Hi Mike,
Hope you enjoy S ownership.

Have had mine for just over a year. I am replacing the painted on veneer on the dash and switch panel and hope to have them back in over Christmas. I used a company called LS Veneering in Cheshire and they did the dash and switch panel for 220 + Post and Packing. Some photos of the panels below:

The inspiration and advice to remove the dash came from this forum.

Well done.

Had mine since 2013 and is virtually used everyday these days and never fails to make me smile. Such fantastic and underrated little cars that just seem to be admired everywhere it goes.

The exhaust note even makes dogs happy. confused

Welcome to the team Mike...getting an S is the best decision you will ever make.... wink

It's worth doing a search on the dash re-veneering as it has been discussed before...my S3 has peeing veneer but I have not bothered yet as greeting the dash off is a bit of a faff, due to reaching inaccessible bolts round the back with your small telescopic fingers....

Good luck, and enjoy the ride....

Hi Mike, welcome to the best forum on Pistonheads and to S ownership.

Looks good in red too and not a common colour. For what it's worth I quite like the look of the black dash, it works with the red exterior and the two tone carpeting but understand your desire to reinstate the 'wood' look.

A very nice gent from Chesterfield called John Palethorpe, his username XK140 on the website. A lot of work has been done on the car in the last few years including full engine rebuild (3k invoice, failed oil pump !) full respray & loads of bills for brake servo etc etc. Chassis is mint. I must say, it has exceeded all of my expectations so far !
