S information for prospective buyers
Discussion
As there are so many people enquiring about the S at the moment, I thought it might be helpfull to get a rough price/ insurance cost etc guide going as I can not find easily accessable info on PH or up to date info on the web. I will then email it to Ted and hopefully he will put it up in the S series guide alongside the parts guide
So could you post rough value, age, condition, model, insurance cost, age of driver.
Any other suggestions would be welcome
If this is successfull I will try to get it done on the next couple of weeks
Cheers
Rich

Hopper - top idea. I for one am very interested!
Mhibbins - when are you thinking of putting the car up for sale (out of curiosity)
As a slight aside - I wouldn't mnd having a nose round an S or two before I begin the task of hunting for one. Are there any meets in the Essex region planned, so I could pop along and ask stupid / boring questions? Obviously if there is a pub nearby, suitable lubrication (up to the legal limit guv'nor) would be provided by way of thanks!

I live in Upminster, Essex and go regularly to the mid essex monthly meet at Woodham Mortimer. A typical meet has around 30-40 cars of all types. I have an S3C (having dental work done at the mo) but when she's back, you are welcome to have a good look so that you have some idea what to look for.

We meet the first Sunday of every month.

quote:Maybe this weekend. I've put the engine and gearbox back and just need to refit all the ancilliaries, the new downpipes, the rest of the exhaust and the bonnet. The car was fine before I took it apart except for the synchro in 4th was knackered and the gearbox rear seal was seeping a bit. There was nothing wrong with the old clutch but it seemed sensible to put a new one in while it was all apart. The only thing I have left to do is get the wheels polished but if anyone wants it with mucky wheels they can have it for 100 or so less and do it themselves (or not bother ).

njw - that'd be great, thanks. I'm only in Chelmsford anyway, so not too far to pootle over. I imagine that the sound of 30-40 TVR's must be something else on some of those lanes! I'll check out the website and hopefully see you guys there!
Mhibbins - bit too soon for me I'm afraid! Got a few things going on (changing jobs and moving house) so haven't even had a chance to consider selling the Puma yet!

Cool... hopefully our timings will cross! Much rather buy a PH'er car that I know has been well cared for, than a random one off the street (so to speak).

You'd be suprise how many S's are "up for sale" if someone asks the owner at the right time
Cheers
Matt.
quote:I'd be suprised if any v6 S owner doesn't occasionally consider a griff or a chim as the S does inspire confidence in the brand. I'm going sideways though and getting a daily car for the winter and a westy (or similar) for trackdays, sprints and fun. That way I can really enjoy a trackday/sprint and not worry about how I'm going to get to work if I break the car.

That's the current plan at any rate

Not sure, but unable to find much. I am off on hols today in the S, so if anyone sees a grey s3 with loud exhaust passing them on the way to cornwall tonight give a hearty wave. Also I expect everyone to have posted details for when I get back after bank holiday so I can get to work.
Also any ideas on the format of the info would be appreciated as there are so many variables.
Cheers then

Is Ratsey's insurance register still going?
I think its closed down now - it was www.ratsey.com/tvr but that file is no longer there.
There was a price guide on my site for a while but its only interesting now to see how badly things have changed....
