Another novice question
Discussion
hi all,
I'm another TVR 'virgin' joining the ranks of S ownership having recently ( 2 months ago ) purchased my first Tiv, best money ever spent!
I thought I'd ask here for some advice as it would appear from these pages that there's nothing you guys don't know about. My question is this;
My car has a black roof and the hood section has faded quite a lot, although the targa sections are still very dark. Can anyone suggest a product to darken the hood? I have tried Thompson's Water Seal but this hasn't helped.
I'm sure there is a thread for this somewhere, but looking at the number of pages on here it would take me weeks to find!
Hoping to make it to PH#4 once a venue/date has been set.
Cheers,
Mark

Hello Mark, welcome to the world of the 's'...
For the roof, try the renovation kits available for about 50 quid from www.renovointernational.com .
If you do a search on the subject from all tvr forums you can quickly see you're not the first to ask this question about faded roof probs.. I haven't tried the stuff yet, it's on my 'to do' list, along with quite a lot else
See how you go with it, do let us know......cheers

Thanks Chin Up,
will go and have a look at the renovo site and see what they've got.
I know what you mean about the 'to do' list! I had a 12000 mile service done 3 weeks ago at Tower View ( excellent service), seems that the body work/chasis are fine, but will need a new exhaust in the not too distant future and the cam apparently is worn ( like a loud tappety sort of sound) Was surprise as there is only 35k on the clock and would have thought camshaft wear would be noticeable at more like 60 - 70k?
Also stuck on a new pair of RE71's on the rear, did have brand new Goodyear NCT 2's fitted just before I bought it but picked up a nail in one at some stage so changed both to match the front.
Thanks again, will let you know about the roof.

Used Renovo on my Griffith roof a few months back and can highly recommend it even if it is a bit pricy at £30.
But it does a quality job at bringing the colour back and is very simple to put on,just like painting.
Enjoy the 's' they are great fun to drive and farly easy to maintain.
All the best

Just waiting for the stuff to arrive from Renovo, ordered the kit that includes the proofer and plastic window cleaner as well.
I phoned the service dept. at Renovo to make sure they had got my order (don't always trust this techno ordering on-line lark, much prefer the good old fashion phone!) and he asked where I'd got their details from. Told him from the PH gassing site and he was well chuffed!
I think the hood section will probably need at least a couple of coats as it is quite badly faded, so keeping fingers crossed we get a couple of decent dry evenings to get it done.
( will need a couple of evenings as a good excuse to get a few in whilst each coat is drying! )
cheers,
Mark

will the dye have a problem penetreting the Thompson seal that I have just put on?
I think the kit comes with a cleaner/preparation fluid to remove any sealer or other products that have been used previously, but I'll let you know. I should get the stuff in the post tomorrow.
