Just got back from Tuscany - my poor exhaust!
Discussion
Well you may not have believed it possible but I have just driven to Tuscany and back in my 'S2' without a single breakdown or missing of a beat. Yes that's 2536 miles in one hit, cruising through France at a steady 95 (good quiet roads and courteous French drivers who can use more than one lane on a motorway - I always thought the French and Italians were worse drivers than the Brits but sadly this is no longer the case)
There were a few casualties however....
My passenger side windscreen wiper stopped working (I think the gear has stripped on the wiper box - anyone have any ideas of the original - it looks like Mini).
The steering became stiff first thing - anyone had this - do I need to re-lube the rack? - if so with what?
My exhaust may have hit it's last stone - Take the weight of a tent and associated junk - a full tool kit (not risking anything) and our baggage and Tuscan roads and a good grind can be found about every 30-45 minutes. So the questions are..............
Who does the best replacement exhaust and how much is it?
What was the wiper box taken from?

According to the parts list its from a left hand drive Vauxhall carlton.88/89. Ring Russells automotive of Watford for more details because you can have it reconditioned. (01923 235601). the motor is a AC delco motor and could be any of a number fitted. get it out and check the number if you have to replace it. You must use the same number if possible.
Rack. Bespoke TVR. S28H 10050. apparently the supplier went bust! Can be reconditioned for about £75. contact your local TVR specialist. should be able to grease this up as long as there is no play in it. this stiffness could also be the UJs on the shaft. Use a light oil to free it all up and then see what its like.
good luck.

Jack the front of the car up and spin the steering wheel and see how stiff it feels.Try and lubricate the knuckle joints on the column.Looking at the crude design, the one nearer the bulkhead will get the brunt of all the road is going to throw at it.I am thinking of using a mountain bike inner tube over the joints to prevent dirt ingress
