Is there a trick to putting an engine and gearbox back in and getting the gearbox mount fitted?
I've tried putting the mount on the box and then getting it in position but it won't go and I've also tried putting the engine in an then trying to put the gearbox mount on but there doesn't appear to be room. Any tips anyone?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I put the gearbox in first with a jack supporting the back and a rope tied on the bellhousing to a beam in the garage to support the front, and with the help of a mate moving the 'box into position I then fitted the mount and bolted the mount to the chassis.
This was a while ago but I do remember it being a bit fiddly.
Also I remember that tightening the rear torx bolt on the gearshift extention arm being a job that required very small hands If my memory serves me well the best access to do this is from underneath the car.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Cheers,
Dave.

Ah, thanks Dave.
Sussed it
As I was on my own I had to put the engine/clutch/gearbox together in the garage and then fit the whole lot. What you do is slide the whole lot in at 45 degrees and then get the gearbox on a wheeled jack so you can lower the engine in and slide the whole lot backwards. Get the engine on the engine mounts (easier said than done) and then and only then is the engine low enough so that you can now jack up the gearbox and then there's easily enough clearance to fit the gearbox mount.
I've continued to take a fair few pictures of all this including me fitting the clutch and so on which I will post on a webite when I get a minute.
Thanks again chaps,
Mark
PS, I left the gearchange bits on as they didn't seem to foul anything.

quote:Oops. I took one look at the manifold bolts and had a tentative go with a socket and thought better of attempting to remove them. If you take off the distributor and the right (from the front) rocker cover then there's enough room not to take off the manifolds.
Don't I feel the Numptie, I took off the engine mounts and the manifolds

Hope you have it back in motion really soon.
