was speaking to a mate taday and he's got me worried!the oil pressure on the s3 sits at about 60 when the car is up to temp and idling at around 1k revs. it drops below 50psi when the revs are increased. its always been like this and the car has'nt dropped any oil since i got it.thought it was normal as the car seems to be running ok and the engine has'nt blown up yet! is this normal?
cheers for any advice

Kev,
You might well have a dodgy pressure sensor. The only real way of testing this is to fit a mechanical testing gauge - Most mechanics/garages will have one, it will show the true pressure.
If it's any help, mine read low pressure and it was just the sensor in the end.
Cheers,
Dave.

Sounds like a dodgy sender unit to me. I don't know what the sender unit is from, but I do know it is very unreliable, I am on my third or fourth unit!!
After investigating with a proper capilliary gauge, my S2 oil pressure is 20 - 25 psi at 900 rpm hot, increasing to 45 - 50 psi at running speed above about 2000 rpm hot.
Cold pressures are 30 - 40 psi at 900 rpm increasing to 50 psi at about 2000 rpm cold. (pressure relief valve will prevent the oil pressure going above about 50 psi, despite what the gauge says).
