building myself up to the rebuild and had a thought(it happens on occasion with me)about the tensile strenth of stainless bolts.question is, they will look better than steel ones but are they up the the job for say suspention fixings?

I looked at using stainless nuts and bolts for my S2, but the tensile strength is significantly lower than for mild steel, therefore I will be using zinc plated mild steel. Another thing to remember is that if in future the nut and bolt need to be removed and it siezes or the bolt bends, stainless is much more difficult to cut through. Finally, using stainless next to mild steel will cause rust, stainless acts as a catalyst for corrosion.

Stainless ones will last longer and look better for longer than Zinc, just make sure you use them sensibly - not on suspension etc, just where they are retaining brackets etc, they are more than adequate for most applications on an S2. I have them on my exhaust manifolds and can always get them out when I need to (unlike most equivalents which rust in).

Screwfix are by far the cheapest and easiest if you can get above the minimum order value for no postage charge.

Good Luck.

Steve.
