Hi all,
I'm just after a bit of advice.
Not so long back I purchased my 1st TVR. An S3C from a Non Franchised TVR "Specialist" dealer, based in the south Midlands area.
They were extremeley generous and gave me 1 months warranty with my new car. Said car developed a blow on the exhaust within the warranty period. I duly phoned up and booked an appointment for them to inspect and possibly rectify the problem.
Upon inspection it was dicscovered that one of the Cats had a split in the seam.
It was decided that the cat would need removing and the seam could then be welded to rectify the problem, this would take approx 3 hours to complete.
A date convieniant to both parties was agreed.
The car was duly left with "Specialist" dealer and I returned some 2 hours later to see how they were progressing.
The mechanic was still inspecting the exhaust as he hadn't spotted the split in the cat. I duly pointed out where the problem was and he decided to weld in situ.
I retired to the showroom to kill some time.
A short time later I was informed my vehicle was ready.
Much to my disbelief the exhaust still sounded blowy!
I duly returned and took one of the partners for a test drive to re-identify my concern.
Unfourtuanately he appeared to be hard of hearing as to qoute: "It sounds like any other S to me"
Having spoken to a number of people regarding the welding of the cat I am now led to believe it is now serving no useful purpose. A: Because its been welded. & B: It's still blowing.
Any suggestions before I make another call to the dealer?

I would take it somewhere else, get them to report that it is blowing and then go back and ask the dealer to either fix it or suggest you get it done elsewhere and they pay for it.
I found they were ok at fixing problems as long as you are firmish with them and put your side in writing (I emailed them and then got phone calls back).
As an aside with an 91 car you don't legally need cats. When mine started rattling I had some decat tubes made up, only £20 each at the time compared to just under £900 for some new cats.
Cheers,
JSG.

Just as a matter of interest where did you get your by-pass pipes manufactured?
Thames Valley Racetech in Sonning Common Berks had them made up. The lambda sensors were left in place and the car ran fine - slightly crisper exhaust note and all though it seemed to have a bit more power I had it serviced and tuned at the same time so I'm not sure what affect the decat had on power.
If you want to mail off line I'll give you more backround on the issues I had assuming we're talking about the same dealer.
Cheers,
JSG.
