Door Wiring Question

Sorry everyone, yet another question for you all.

I need to run some new speaker cable to the doors in my car, as it is very worn and the insulation seems to be breaking down.

My question is, how to you get access to the wiring in the door shut? It seems to be totally inaccessible. Surely you don't have to take the door off of its hinges?

Hi Jon. Yup - I believe that's what most people do! It is a nightmare. Very poorly designed.

Is it possible to use the old cable to pull the new one through?

I'm not sure if this is normal, but it seems I have a bit of high-density sponge that acts as a door stop, and the wiring runs through this.

The wiring seems fairly loose so I'm hopeful I can just pull some through. I don't really fancy taking the doors off just for some speaker cable!

Thought I'd update this in case anyone looks in the future...

I found its actually not too hard to run new cable using the wire coat hanger through the door shut method from the cabin side (admittedly much easier with two people).

With the door not quite fully open the two holes lined up quite well.
