Breakdown Insurance
Discussion
Here's a little story with a happy end I thought I'd share with you.
I had a current account with a fee which got me various extras including AA cover. Due to various changes it became uneconomic so I switched to different type of account.
So I had to look around for breakdown cover for our main family vehicle and the TVR (which I hardly use). Green Flag came out much cheaper than the AA or RAC and I decided to take a punt on them. This was based on the family vehicle but with personal cover for me and Mrs. Unicorn, to drive any other car.
However, on checking the small print I found that "any other car" was limited to it being less than 16 years old, thus excluding my S3.
So I get on to Green Flag and they say I can switch the main vehicle to the TVR but there is an additional premium of £80 which almost doubles the price and makes it a worse deal than the AA or RAC. If I did nothing and used them for a callout they said it would be £130 so it seemed worth the risk as I hardly do 500 miles in the TVR.
Then I had second thoughts so did some googling to see if you can get breakdown cover with limited mileage. What came up was actual car insurance through my existing insurer, but it said they include free breakdown insurance.
So I get out my policy documents and sure enough it's there! And all that for £136 fully comp (limited mileage 1500).
