Broken clutch pedal spring

It never rains.

Following Friday's breakdown (thanks for the advice, I'll replace both parts) I've been cleaning the car and noticed a spring hanging from the clutch pedal.



Funnily enough the pedal action seems to work fine.

Anyone know what it's designed to do and where I can buy a replacement (V8S)?

Something like this could probably be "adapted" ?


Without the spring the weight of the clutch pedal is pushing on the master cylinder which in turn will push on the slave cylinder which could then push the release bearing against the clutch..... premature release bearing failure.
