relays - what do they do?

there are 3 almost identical black relays on the front baulkhead passenger footwell highish up under the dashboard. I will try to upload a photo later.

the one hanging down had wires with twisted (and separated) cable joints!!

The under dash wiring is in a shocking (sic) state

By the looks of things it is some sort of modification (with the mix of original and new wiring). I think your only option is to disconnect one at a time and see what stops working.

Or...if everything is OK just leave 'em be!

Maybe something to do with an alarm/immobiliser?

Do any/all click when ignition turned on or alarm switched off?


Guess the technical way would be to pull 'em out one at a time and see what stops working

Mine has two similar relays added. A number of cars with the additional 'fog' lights in the bonnet have had a mod to link these to the main beam, so they come on as additional rather than being switched from the switch panel. Could be this?
