I'm struggling to get my trailing arms repaired in a timely fashion here in the USA. I really don't fancy shipping them to the UK for repair unless I have no other option. I don't suppose anyone has a decent pair knocking about that they are willing to ship to the States?

It's a long shot, but you never know!

I hope somebody turns up a pair for you David, but I reckon Adrian Venn ( Adrian@ here on p/hds ) is probably your best / quickest bet. I have no idea what the shipping costs are both ways though.
You've probably read on here that he does a proper jigged refurb with a rapid turn-round time.

Thanks Glen. That is one of my options, but shipping can be crazy - I paid 30 quid to ship a small box from a UK TVR parts vendor, then I received another bill from TNT for $38 ($30 for them, $8 for tax).

I didn't remove the hubs or drum backing plates either, so they are extra bulky. I don't know if I can shift the hub nut now.....

I just spent my lunch hour coming up with a jig design to keep everything aligned, and I might be getting somewhere now. I'm surrounded by brilliant engineers and some really good fabricators, but for some reason progress is painfully slow.

Yes he does if he's paying for shipping both ways between USA & UK. $$$$$

Spoke to Adrian last week and he said he had some S1 arms in stock. Buy them, refurbed. Saves two way carriage hassle at least.

Only to reduce weight for shipping.

If you remove the four bolts holding the brake backplate and bearing carrier to the trailing arm doesn't the whole lot come out without needing to undo the "big nut" ?

OK. I didn't spend long looking at that, but from memory the hub flange is too big to pass through the bearing carrier hole? I'll take a good look at it.

With the drive shaft CV joint disconnected won't it come out forwards?

That's actually what I meant by the hub flange, forgetting that there is also a big old flange on the front that better suits the description!

The cv joint side flange is 100mm dia, and looking at this pic (thankfully not mine and I don't have my parts here), the hole is smaller than 100mm:

I'm going to have another chat with my fabricator tomorrow to see if we can agree on a sensible timeframe or if I need to call in the big gun (Adrian Venn).

Hi
You have to remove the hub nut, remove all the brake parts and push the hub back through the carrier to remove it, then rmove the 4 bolts that hold the carrier to the trailing arm. Hole in trailing arm smaller than the hub C/V flange

Cor blimey!
Phillpot is only human after all wink

Not often he has to fess up to being wrong.

Getting those hub nuts undone is easy if you bolt the car back onto the trailing arm. silly sorry
