Filled the engine with 4.7 litres of oil today. Did it with a 1L measuring jug and avoided spilling any, well maybe a drip or two.. I left the oil to settle for a while and got on with something else. I later raised the car on the ramp and noticed a small area of fresh oil on the floor! After a few minutes with the torch, I think I've found the area where it's coming from - the centre rear of the engine just around the distributor. I can't quite understand how the oil could come out so easily and without any pressure or heat from the engine running.. Is there a seal or a bung that could be missing to the rear of engine around this area? The car was losing a bit of oil when I first got it but I thought I'd located that leak on the left rocker cover, I might have been mistaken.. Any thoughts would be most welcome.
Thought so.. I steamed the whole engine/gearbox when out of the chassis as it was covered and couldn't see where the oil was coming from. Knew it wasn't the rear crank seal as the inside of the bell housing was dry, so filled that out. When I removed the left hand rocker box, I noticed the gasket underneath was a little but damaged and assumed that it could have been the area of the leak..
Could be an 'easy' fix then??

I had the same issue until last month. I had done the rocker cover gaskets with top quality ford gaskets and a little sealant at the head / inlet manifold junction, and dizzy o-ring twice to no avail. It turned out to be the inlet manifold gasket after all.
I was so pleased as I suspected one of the heads.
Mine used to leak down the back of the engine near the dizzy, on to the bell housing and eventually the exhaust.
All cured now :-)
