Spare wires ?

Getting to the nitty-gritty stuff now.. Doing the last of the wiring today and I'm left with 2 connections I'm not sure of. I think the small round terminal is a negative and needs earthing somewhere but I can't remember where it came off. The other waterproof socket I'm also unsure of, I think it's unused as I can't find another connection for it. Any help would be very welcome, thanks..

Hi Terry, it may help if you can tell us the colours of the cables in question.
The wiring diagrams in the Bible 2nd Edition could be helpful.

ETA Are they on the nearside of the engine bay?
Have you connected up the oil pressure sender?

Reckon, as you say, the big 'un is an earth. Is there a stud on the diagonal brace down to the outrigger corner?

Small one I don't recognise, may be unique to S3c ?

Hi Glen.

Little round 'un is black which I'm pretty sure is earthed out, possibly under a rocker cover bolt. I've not stripped back the waterproof connector sheath but will look later..
I've got the wiring diagram, but it was getting late last night and I thought it may be an 'easy one' on the forum. I've got the air pipe sorted though..

Think you've got it Mike. The stud is on the diagonal strut and it's got nothing on it at present. Will have later..

Looking at the photo, it looks like the twin socket has been disconnected for a very long time, judging by the dirt accumukated on the inside of it. I would say it's probably redundant. But don't quote me on that!

On a S3C there's a connector similar to that that goes to the solenoid thingy for the carbon canister. It's in the area of the dipstick so could well be it.

Ah yes, the solenoid thingy I asked about when I bought mine .... clicky


Peeled a bit more insulation tape of to find this quality repair to a melted connector (touched exhaust?)

I jumped the gun a bit.. The diagonal does have a bunch of earths on it already, I thought it was another stud..
I'm sure the round connector is an earth so I just located it under the rear right rocker cover bolt. The plug, I'm sure is redundant but I've taken a couple more photos showing the cable colours. It's to the right rear of the engine bay near the little emissions solenoid thingy (which I've already connected up)..

Aha ! that earth wire does go to the engine, rocker cover bolt not too good a choice as they don't really tighten up nice 'n tight.... there should be a threaded hole (M6) in the inlet manifold, just forward of the fuel pressure regulator.






...although this one has been put on one of the throttle linkage bolts




Can't see anything like that other plug you're holding on my car? As Glen said. looks dirty, maybe spare/unused, air con or something????

Yep, agreed on the rocker cover location, there's also a damn great thick cork insulator gasket under it not helping matters.. I'll relocate tomorrow, many thanks.
