SEARCHING FOR PAST POSTS

This is perhaps most relevant to newer users of the forum, but there has been discussion on this in the past.
At one time the 'Search' function was managed by the 'owners' of the forum and it was easy to search past posts. That isnt the case now and the search is effectively a Google search. At first the change was very unwelcome. However as time has passed more past posts are being researched and appear on Google searches. I am certainly finding it much easier to access past information.
So, if you are a newer user you might find it worthwhile making a search rather than asking a question.
To search, open the search box above and type in 'TVR S' with the subject. For example
TVR S Mirrors
will bring a whole page of past PH listings.
If you do not find what you want, then I would suggest adding to the most relevant of those listing so we all get the 'thread'. (Note the word 'thread', implying some length of continuity!)
I know there are two views about adding to past listings, but this is my view: if we are to keep building up a record of the information gained by members on a subject of interest to later members, then we should try to add to posts rather than start new ones. Surely that is in our long term interests?
Just one example, a new thread recently started on a subject that Norman Farmer researched and went to a lot of time and trouble documenting and providing drawings etc. The new thread brought in quite a few views but completely missed the precise work Norman had done for us all. The end result was LESS well informed than we had been a couple of years ago!
There were even well intentioned parallel discussions on Facebook which seemed to me to be capable of 'muddying the water' even further. Fortunately several Facebook members directed others to this forum and Facebook has become more social than technical.
OK, I know many people will not agree with me, and it is easier to put on a new post than research old ones (and I have been guilty of it myself), but surely we should try to keep the knowledge won by experience and research and add to it.
Hopefully this post might lead to some better use of PH resources?
I will now put my head down below the parapet once again and dodge the bullets!!

Seriously, a good point, that's why I usually tell newbies on here about the search facility & the "useful links" & general S info " on here.

I agree to a certain degree on what you have said Richard and have found the old threads the most useful although I too have been guilty of starting new threads on old subjects. Maybe we should use the FAQ area more often and update the details there on the most topical subjects ?

Every thing you say is very sensible and logical but this is an open Forum full of "all sorts" who perhaps don't think and work in such a logical manner
Some perhaps like it for the technical advise, others a bit of general S banter and maybe most of us for a mix?
It wouldn't be what it is (imho) if it were as organised as the Encyclopedia Britannica.
Sometimes I'm sure newcomers perhaps don't know about the search but can't help wondering if just occasionally It's a case of "I want to tell you all I've got an S!", A discrete search for my answer won't do that !!!

For what it's worth, I've found the search function pretty straightforward to use. Normally there's an old post somewhere which highlights the info I've been looking for. If I get stuck or need more technical info I'll start a topic which, to the credit of all you pistonheafs stalwarts, gets answered straight away.. Thanks for all your past help...!

I dont know if I should be disappointed or pleased. I put my head down below the parapet and waited, and waited, and waited...I was beginning to think you were all asleep. No real bullets at all, a couple of very mild rebukes with some 'flowers' of support thrown over!.

I will try not to YELL in future. 
You are dead right, the variety of stuff on PH of interest to S owners is a great strength. I enjoy all the banter as much as the practical info. Without it this wouldnt be the 'friendly' forum that it is.

It is an age thing you know....now where did I put my slippers??Richard, I fully appreciate your quest to bring some sort of order to the S universe, but I think you'll have an uphill struggle, as things just develop at such a tremendous rate, it's a bit like poor old King Canute ( sorry Maffe, "Knut" ) trying to command the tide to go back.
I myself just go with the flow, occasionally prodding the tiller if I feel like it.

Fair point somebody raised about the FAQ's though, shame it's so tucked away in the LH top corner. I didn't even notice it for the first 12 months I was on here.
There's a lot of outdated stuff though.
I myself would like to see the owners' lists cleaned up to accurately show an up to date representation of the real current status. A lot of owners don't bother to "log out" when they sell their S and their outdated details remain for years.
I myself just go with the flow, occasionally prodding the tiller if I feel like it.
