Rear Brake Removal

Quick question...

I need to take my trailing arms off. Is it possible to remove the hub with the brakes in situ? It looks like I can get to the hub bolts, so if I disconnect the handbrake and brake lines, the can the whole assembly slide off?

Yes, also need to take off the drive shafts and shocks.

Cheers for that. Should save stripping all the brakes down if they can come off in one unit.

Quite possibly not. I confess I've not looked at it properly yet. I was just hoping it might be an option. No big deal if not though.

It's only a few minutes' work to strip the brakes down, and if you want to disconnect the handbrake cable from the brake shoe actuating arm, you have to remove the shoe anyway. Just remember to pop an elastic band around the wheel cyl to prevent the pistons from coming out.

I think this is probably going to display my ignorance, but how does the handbrake cable release from the back plate?

I've read something about a spring clip, but not really sure how this works...

Outer cable pushes through backplate and held in place by a "C" clip.





This clip may well brake break when you prise it off, not really problem, once it's all back together the cable can't go anywhere. A tie wrap put around it will hold it in place while you assemble things.
