Spoken to garage and there is:
good news- I don't have to be parting with large sums of dosh yet
bad news- Mat Smith has done his back in at the weekend so is unable to get out of bed let alone come in to work so won't be getting the car back in the very near future.
At least nothing untoward has been discovered as of yet so fingers & toes crossed nothing else goes wrong.

Tell Matt to see a good chiropractor / osteopath.
Believe me they can make a BIG difference to recovery & pain relief.
We wish him a speedy recovery & a return to work in the very near future.

Carport roof started flailing about in the 90mph winds, I've taken a couple of long twin-wall polycarbonate panels down so they don't blow away & decapitate somebody. It was scary up a ladder.
But my heart goes out to all those poor souls affected by the devastating floods.
I sincerely hope matters improve very soon.
At times like this it's communities that come to the fore, you can't blame the government for catastrophic weather like this.
It's down to all of us to muck in & help where we can.

He's back at work today, heat pads strapped to the offending part. He did go to a bone cruncher, and now at least knows what's wrong. He gritted a few things and got out of bed this morning, and is back at the workshop directing operations and giving Will the benefit of all his knowledge. So you may get your car back sooner than you thought.

Many thanks indeed for the compliments kind sir- yes, it is most likely mine that you saw (though it's an S2). I hope that when Mat has finished fettling it will be rewarding to drive as it hasn't been for a little while now though in fairness that's most likely to do with me not getting the suspension set up properly. I can only suggest that you try one. Have you got driving cars not belonging to you on your insurance? My car is on a classic policy, will check tomorrow. We could drive each other's. That's if a 5 litre, properly balanced, Chim with 300 bhp and 330 torques is of any interest.........and your insurance covers you.
