Or more like the cat is into the TVR..
After what seems like an age my 24v conversion hit a major milestone this week.
The engine is finally in. This was my alternate engine after it turned out the BOA cosworth unit I had secured needed an expensive rebuild.. Looking to do this work initially I set about sourcing parts which were (a) expensive and (b) hard to find. I guess the cosworth 24v only appeared in the Granada for a few years so they just aren't around like they used to be.
New plan was something modern and simple, plentyfull and cheep.
I ended up with this.. Its all as it came from the donor car from front pully to probshaft so I know it will all work as it should.. I am attempting to stay standard so no hibrid gearbox or bolt on clutch hydraulics. It will get aftermarket management though.
3.0 v6 240-250 bhp expected all aluminium.. Even has coil on plug ignition. Should see 35mpg+ on a run.
So I should get great drivability, more power and also save circa 40kg in the process. Oh and my dodgy starter issue better go away as well..

I hope it's from an S-type so the true S heritage is maintained.
What better engine for an S than an S engine ?
Will it be a de-catted ex-cat engine?
Did you get the idea from the Locost forum?
Is it a reasonably straightforward installation, or have there been any problems?

Wow - that fits nicely.
I did look at doing a S-type V6 into my S a few years ago but all the info kept pointing out that the 5th gear isn't an overdrive gear but a 1:1 ratio. Therefore one needed a higher ratio diff to compensate. Are there plans to replace the diff as well or does your box have an overdrive top gear?

Hello folks thanks for the kind comments.
I am an architect (it) and hence am not doing the spannering myself the job takes too much time and i have a young family not to mention lack of tools and skill in this area... So it was my idea following research and is being expertly executed by Track v Road for me. Great guys. We are exploring the unknown together. These is a 3000m with the engine and some seven type cars but they tend to use t9 gearbox. I think this is an S series first.
Gearbox. You are both correct 1:1 5th really had me thinking for a while.. I have a quaiffe LSD in my 3.64:1 so didn't really want to swap that but also didn't want to mess with adaptor plates and clutches to fit my t5. Hmm so in the end decided to go jag box and a new crown wheel and pinion for the 7.5" diff.. This is not cheep but hope to go more like 3.14:1 or so which should reinstate the top speed.
Manifolds were mentioned earlier these will be custom SS headers but I needed a set anyway and price will be same on this engine.
It is from an s type (comes with right gearbox and sump) and is a ford originated design but the jag has vvt and makes 240bhp in the s type. Its also in landrovers and x types mondeos etc so loads of parts about. But as said the s type is more developed and obviously is the only inline 2wd installation.
The engine is only a 60 degree Ve so not too wide but some chassis mods and new engine mounts have been made to fit it.

the only part I cannot see is the alternator...may be difficult but not insurmountable, I wish I'd looked at other motors, as you rightly say there are very few parts for the cossy (which are expensive) and certainly not worth rebuilding! - I do have a spare for any future miss-hap if it happens.
I've just done a bit of googling ( Oo-er missus! ), & I gather the original engine design was by Mazda, then it was developed by Ford to become the Zetec 30, then further adapted to become the engine of choice for discerning buyers of the Jag S & X Types.
Well proven, lightweight, powerful, economical ......... way to go!

Engine should be back in after final chassis prep. Need to sort a non FBW throttle body. May use the st220 manifold as the jag plenum has a couple of strange valves that the ecu used to control and a huge FBW throttle body. The st220 is traditional with cable throttle an desperate ISCV so think it's the way to go. May restrict me to 220bho mind.. Hope not.
Will post some pics of exhaust manifolds when on PC. Decided to go back from engine as gearbox is smaller.
