Been a long time coming but I have now finally started.
I've had a petrol leak from the tank for some time, so my first job was to drop the tank and send it off for a replacement.
Tank cradle shot blasted and powder coated.

Petrol pump removed, cleaned up and will replace the connectors with something more waterproof.

Any suggestions what to replace the compressed grubby sponge type stuff with that was packed around the pump ?
I now regret getting the car waxoiled this stuff covers everything and is a bugger to remove but I intend to get it all off and paint any areas that need it. Again any ideas what works best to stop the brown rusty stuff re-appearing ?

I will keep posting updates as and when I progress

Looking good.
What was the cost of getting the tank cradle powder coated? PM me if you'd rather. This is one of the options I am looking at doing this spring.
Update .... Aluminum petrol tank should be ready early next week with slight mods.
No in tank pick up filter which removes the need for the sender unit type mount at the base of the tank but I will fit an in line fuel filter between the tank and the fuel pump. I have seen this http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/fuel-filt... but I'm not sure if it is the right size to fit ?
Also having new tank straps made at the same time out of stainless
it's just a shame it will be out of sight

It`s used on aero structures, it dries, unlike waxoyl, it also does not collect so much road dust and debris
It`s very durable and is not so messy.

Thanks for the link stevej and certainly better than that dirty Waxoil stuff. I was thinking POR15 was the way to go but didn't know if it was possible to do a partial lift just on the backend so that I can paint the chassis rails around the tank cradle ? http://www.dinitrol.co.uk/?gclid=COTO__n-j7wCFUgJw...

They're not too easy to find!
I opted for this one and soldered some stubs of 15mm "central heating pipe" on each end
Would this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LPG-autogas-filter-16mm-... do the job ?I opted for this one and soldered some stubs of 15mm "central heating pipe" on each end

Anyone done this or know how easy it is to do?Chris
Update so far .....
New Petrol tank due to arrive today
can't wait to see what it's like.
Decided to drop the diff while painting the backend and got carried away and bought a LSD off a 2wd 1992 Ford Granada Cosworth that's done 90k.
Question .... should I get the diff serviced and checked over before fitting or take the risk that they are bullet proof so no need?

In short, I'd recommend an overhaul as a tired LSD becomes an 'open' diff as the viscous fluid degrades with time/use.This is an exert from the Wikipedia page for LSD's which explains it better than I could and as far as I know applies to the Ford LSdiff too.
Viscous LSDs are less efficient than mechanical types, that is, they "lose" some power. In particular, any sustained load which overheats the silicone results in sudden permanent loss of the differential effect.[6] They do have the virtue of failing gracefully, reverting to semi-open differential behavior. Typically a visco-differential that has covered 60,000 miles (97,000 km) or more will be functioning largely as an open differential;[citation needed] this is a known weakness of the original Mazda MX-5 (a.k.a. Miata) sports car. The silicone oil is factory sealed in a separate chamber from the gear oil surrounding the rest of the differential. This is not serviceable; when the differential's behavior deteriorates, the VLSD center must be replaced.
Also as your putting so much work in to the car at the moment it would be a shame to have the worry of whether your replacement diff was about to go bang on your first drive after completion.
Hey, it's your decision but I know what I'd do

Now just a matter of finding a place you trust, and know what they're doing with viscous LSD's
M&T Transmissions in Sheffield is a place I have used in the past for a few jobs and they look like old school mechanics with lots of oil and grease on the walls. So was going to see what they would charge. Don't suppose anyone has any experience of them ?
