Well I've picked a job to start on, and that job is Brakes.
So my first question...
The car is missing the flexible brake hoses at the front, so was going with a set of Goodridge hose to sort that (unless anyone has any better ideas), but I'm also missing the small copper hoses at the hub hanger.

(piccy off a different thread, apologies if the owner of the pic dosn't want it reposted)
So, I'm going to have to get a local firm to make up this little pipe for me, but I don't have any originals to use as a template.
Does anyone have any info on this hose, i.e. overall length, end fittings, is it the same diameter as the rest of the system etc anything really that I can provide to the chap who makes them up ? if worst comes to worst I'll get them made up as straight tube and bend myself. Did consider bypassing the little copper hose but I believe that the insurance would class that as a modification and may or may not get iffy about it. Thoughts or opinions appreciated.
All the best,
Marc C

Hi Marc,
No comment on the little pipe... In fact not done anything to my brakes, except use them..... Hard
However, did once change std hoses in a triumph to goodridge style braded ones, and there was a massive improvement as I was no longer losing peddle pressure blowing up a rubber hose, rather just adding to break force... So that part is an excellent idea.
Obviously you then need a track day... Or Euro tour to test them on....

Personally I'd go for the "one long flex pipe" option.....
But if you'd rather keep it original (I doubt it would be a concern to your insurers) make a pattern for the short metal pipe from something like an old wire coat hanger (are they all plastic these days?) and take the flexi's with you to confirm the ends you need.
This may not apply to your car, but the advice I was given by the experts was to replace all the flexis with braided. The thought is that leaving the rears as rubber could cause premature (and spectacular) failure of these.
Please bear in mind that the front hoses should be (or might be) metric but the rears on my S3 have some imperial connections. So worth checking out before you order a kit.
You will also find that some of the Goodrich listings can be misleading / inaccurate where it assumes that an S has a live rear axle and only needs one flexi with metric ends!
I had my pipes made up by Stevsons in Birmingham but from existing pipes used as patterns. Interestingly he supplied TVR years ago and reckoned they were as bad to deal with as Aston Martin in those days. They never paid and kept going to different suppliers to lay their hands on whatever they could make fit when they were on stop. No surprise that there are variations in the specifications of the cars! Some Astons are worse apparently - he could only make a set of hoses from patterns as there were so many variations.

Thanks for the replies, and a little update.
I've made a classic TVR error ! I assumed my arrangement would be the same as others... well, guess what, it's different.

I'm missing the lower coupling bracket (circled) on mine?
Soooo 'standard' hose layout is a no go, Mr Phillpots, now excellent, single long flexi hose is the new plan.
Hopefully, he can remember what hoses he used when he upgraded his brakes, and will just say 'easy, there off a chimaera' and not tell me they were hand made my santas' elves or something.
Odd thing is, the original hose with the guard spring round it from the chassis copper to flexi coupling was installed, so I can only assume that it went : copper to chassis/flexi coupling then flexi to flexi coupling at the first hub mount, then straight to calliper?

Some sort of little bracket wouldn't be the "end of the World" to make (maybe in stainless
) but the long hoses are indeed from a Chimaera.
Speak to Stevsonmotors, as Tony said, they are very helpful and will sell you just front or rear pipes, but you will have to assure them you already have braided hoses at the opposite end to those you are buying ( or they'll make you up a mixed set, S rear Chimaera front)
PS suspension looking grubby in earlier photo coz I'd just got back from Midlands Breakfast Club.

That short hose has a longer thread at one end - its standard sierra / granada with just a nut on it fitting to a small L bracket. Thread is M10 x 1.0. Short copper pipe is exactly that - with a M10 x 1.0 fitting as you see there. No real science to the brake pipes.
If there are any imperial fittings it is usually the ones near the diff.
Caveat Emptor and all that.

My thoughts are:
Is the owner of that tyre in the photo aware of the dangerous state it is in?
The outer layer of tread appears to be delaminating from the sidewall, a potentially fatal catastrophic failure is quite likely to occur at any time.
Irrespective of the depth of tread, this looks to be a very old tyre totally unfit for use.
Is there any possible way of informing the owner before an accident happens?

Have had a dig around my bookmarks: Piccy was from a thread in 2009, user name who posted it was "merky300"
Well, after s quick search, it seems Tony ( merky300 ) was still alive & kicking on 26th August, & by a strange coincidence was posting about the Audi TT wing mirrors he had fitted to his S. ( current thread on this subject running )I guess he must have replaced those tyres as part of his rebuild.
Check your tyres guys, & don't trust any over about 7 years old.
