Not sure what you are asking here but if you want the best cooling effect the hot water should go in the top and the cooled water come out the bottom of the radiator. This allows natural convection to assist the flow. I accept the effect in a pumped system is minimal but every little will help on these cars.
wrt the swirl pot I am not sure where this is best positioned as its real purpose is to allow air out of the system and as such I think as long as it is at a high point it shouldn't matter that much whether it is on the "hot" or "cold" leg and really with your bespoke system you would need to look at the system as a whole to ensure you get a balance in the coolant system to allow air to escape, prevent hot water recirc (radiator bypass) and maximise coolant flow.

Edited to correct my F**k up after reading glenrobbos post below - hot water in top, cools and gets colder and then sinks to come out bottom - doh!!!

Edit: It would seem from the diagram that the water flows from the engine to the top of swirl pot, then bottom of swirl pot to top of rad, then bottom of rad to engine ( ? pump inlet? )
If you read the topic I referred to, you will see that I assumed the same as Mark, but the hot water goes into the top of rad, then sinks as it is cooled, then out of the bottom.
Hope this all makes sense.

On mine (see my website - engine bay layout pics) the swirl pot is on the hot leg to the radiator. Water goes from bottom of swirl pot to top of radiator and I assume comes into top from engine via the two large bore hoses. Without going out to the garage and tracing the system I am not sure where all the smaller bore stuff goes as somewhere in there is a radiator bypass for when thermostat is shut
