Hi I am posting on behalf of my mate who has a 1990 s2 but no internet connection.
He has had his car for about 6 years but its been "resting" for the last 3.
During this time he has moved twice and has lost his ignition keyrolleyes.
He now lives in a great house in the sticks with a double garage , pit etc .
But he cant get the barrel off to change it or get another key cut .
How does the barrel come off ?
cheers gav
And his clutch pedal is rock solid it wont go down . Is this just the slave cylinder ?

No offense, but how do we know whether this is genuine, or if your "mate in the big house with a double garage & who has lost his keys" is currently away on holiday & won't be best pleased to return & find his S gone?

Indeed how did he get it into the garage in the first place?

Forgive my scepticism, but IF it's genuine, there are specialist auto locksmiths he can call on.

HTH.

Totally agree Glen. I recently had an email through my website asking for the boot trick and a load of other advice. Seemed genuine so told him all except the boot trick, asked for a photo of V5 before I'd tell him this part as he had already supplied an address. Suffice to say 4 weeks later and no photo in my email so no info provided.

Hi All
Caution is a good thing and I agree with what you say, however this could be a genuine request for help, maybe someone in the area could go along and help with this.

It sounds suspicious to me, if the car has moved to the great house with a double garage with pit & everything out in the sticks, it must have had a key to move it, therefore I recommend searching a bit harder for the key. ( Always worth having a spare by the way )

Any ign lock experts in Worcestershire?

Regarding the clutch problem, it could be one of three things:
Seized master cyl
Seized slave cyl
Release bearing / clutch plate seized on the input shaft ( the most likely if the car has stood unused for 3 years )

If it's the latter, select neutral, start the engine & let it warm up properly for 1/2 an hour or so. Hopefully the heat sink will free it off. A judicious "stamp" on the pedal may assist, but don't overdo it.
If it's either of the first two, replacement would be best.

Hi all , Thanks for the replies . Yes looking at it now it is a bit daft as a first post.
Just to clarify its not a " big house " but a cottage that was built by an engineer hence the garage is more impressive than the house .
It is possible to move a car without a key . A breakdown truck with a front wheel lift works a treat .
As for calling a locksmith don't we all want the satisfaction of doing it ourselves .
I will pass on the clutch advise and see how he gets on .
If any owners in Worcestershire are near Bewdley and would like to meet my mate Mark I know he would be up for it .
Cheers Gav

If you have the tools to do it, it doesn't take a "rocket scientist" to work out how to do it?

As the majority of TVR's also have some form of alarm or immobiliser getting the steering lock off and ignition barrel out won't be the end of your his problems?
That's presuming the alarm fob is with the missing keys?

Find it a little hard to believe in this day and age that Mark can't access the internet somewhere/somehow and ask his own questions?
A photo or two might help sort out all us "doubting Thomas's" scratchchin

Is this the return of the little bright blue bird which frequents the river bank?

Hold your horses Joe biggrin

If it is, it has migrated from it's native haunt in a more northeasterly locality,
where I believe its eggs were quite plentiful.

( Apologies to newbies on here, it's an old PH thing that you won't understand, & best not know. ) wink
